SeaWorld Update: Shark Awareness Day, Work Continues in Future Site of New Coaster (PART 1)
July 14 was Shark Awareness Day, which gave SeaWorld the opportunity to encourage Guests to learn more about these wonderful creatures. A limited number of media members were invited to enjoy a behind-the-scenes tour of the park's Shark Encounter Exhibit, which concluded with a ride on Mako, the shark-themed coaster located next door.
Let's begin by taking a quick look around the Sharks Underwater Grill, which was the starting point of our tour:
After leaving the restaurant, we entered the Shark Encounter attraction from the regular main entrance:
Shark Encounter has received a lot of visual upgrades over the past few months and years. It's an excellent exhibit that you shouldn't miss:
I was not aware that actual shark eggs are on display in the attraction! You can see them in the images below:
A baby shark can be seen nearby:
It's amazing to think that approximately 100,000,000 sharks are killed by humans alone every year!:
The underwater tunnel is definitely a highlight of the exhibit:
The medical pool was our next stop. Here, sharks are carefully examined on a regular basis to ensure their well-being. Fun fact: this pool was also used to film some scenes from JAWS 3D!
One of the most impressive parts of the tour was to be able to see the large shark tank from above:
Another highlight of the tour is being able to touch an actual shark!:
At the end of the tour, we returned to the restaurant. There, professional scuba divers were being interviewed directly from the shark tank!:
