PHOTOS: Disney's Fantasia Gardens Miniature Golf Testing New Child-Friendly Option for the Fairways Course
A few days ago, Disney's Fantasia Gardens Miniature Golf started a test that aims to make the Fairways course a little more child-friendly. As part of this project, numerous pins resembling oversized golf balls were placed on both sides of each hole to signal the spots where younger Guests can begin playing. The pins are located approximately halfway through each hole, giving kids (or adults!) a slight advantage.
The reason behind this test lies in the difficulty level of this course. In fact, according to Cast Members working at the location, the Fairways course was voted the most challenging mini golf course in the world by Golf Digest. Given that it has a par of 72 and some of its holes are more than 100 feet long, it's easy to see why! Additionally, the Fairways does not have the visual appeal of the neighboring Gardens course (which features a multitude of characters and animations), making it harder for families to choose this option.
As a result, it appears that Disney is trying to make it easier for younger Guests to play this course to equalize wait times (the Gardens course tends to have much much higher wait times than the Fairways course on busy weekend afternoons and evenings). This will be even more important once the Gardens course closes for refurbishment starting May 9, as families with young kids will be confronted with a much more challenging mini golf course during the time that course is unavailable.
The test is likely still in the very early stages. Should it be successful, the carpet could be modified to include a secondary tee pad for children. Disney could go even further and add some character statues or topiaries to make it even more child-friendly in the future.
In addition to that, the course is receiving minor improvements in other areas, including the replacement of some of the wooden posts located throughout the course. It's good to see that this area of the resort is receiving some TLC:
Some sections of the carpet of the Fairways course are also expected to be replaced in the coming weeks. Hopefully we will see even more improvements coming to this outdoor attraction in the near future.
