Celebrate International Coastal Clean-up Day at The Seas with Nemo & Friends on Sept. 19
Guests visiting EPCOT tomorrow (Saturday, September 19) are invited to celebrate International Coastal Clean-Up Day at The Seas with Nemo & Friends. As part of the event, Guests will be able to learn more about sea turtles and see how they can help with conservation.
It’s important to keep our oceans clean for all the wildlife that live there because sea turtles sometimes mistake trash and pollution for food. Florida’s beaches are home to large populations of nesting sea turtles, including the largest nesting aggregation of loggerhead sea turtles in the world.
Since 2003, Disney’s Animals, Science, and Environment Cast Members have been monitoring the nesting activity of three species of sea turtles. Every day during the nesting season (March through October), Disney Cast Members survey 4.3 miles of beach near Disney’s Vero Beach Resort to record loggerhead, leatherback, and green sea turtle nests and to evaluate hatching success. Guests can see sea turtles swimming in the Main Environment at The Seas with Nemo & Friends.
