Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge Welcomes Two Babies to the Herd
The animal care team at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge is delighted to welcome two babies to the herd – a Hartmann’s mountain zebra and a sitatunga. Both babies are males, and they are doing great as they bond with their moms.
The zebra foal, born January 29, is out on the savanna with his mom, Zecora, and continues to nurse throughout the day, and is also adventurous with his food eating grasses and hay. Guests visiting Kidani Village at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge can look out onto the savanna and see this little guy, who is a bundle of energy running around and playing hide-and-seek with his animal pals.
There’s another baby boy, a sitatunga, who was born on February 19, and is currently bonding backstage with his mom, Holly. The calf is nursing frequently and tends to be a bit mellow as he learns about his new surroundings. Unlike most antelope species, the nocturnal sitatunga have a highly adapted coat for their preferred swampy habitat – their coats are shaggy and oily – to protect them from the water.
