Prescribed Burn to Take Place 25 Miles West of the Walt Disney World Resort
A large prescribed burn will be conducted in Sumter County sometime during the month of February. The prescribed burn will be conducted in the Withlacoohee State Forest/Green Swamp and will impact about 24,128 acres. The area is located approximately 25 miles west of the Walt Disney World Resort.
The burn is scheduled to occur over a three day window at some point beginning January 30, 2020 and continuing through the month of February, 2020. These controlled events will be done in small sections.
Since the burn will generate a large volume of smoke, some areas of the Walt Disney World Resort may be impacted by this event. Dispersion of the smoke will be dependent on prevailing winds and weather conditions.
