On Aug. 6, 1961, Guests began to fly into the future with Walt Disney’s latest attraction, the Flying Saucers. Bringing life to a relatively quiet Tomorrowland, the Flying Saucers were the bumper cars of the future—the saucers hovered above the ground thanks to bursts of air shooting through the attraction’s floor. While this attraction floated away in 1966, more than 5 million Guests took flight on the attraction.

1996 – Rainforest Cafe officially opens at the Downtown Disney Marketplace, now Disney Springs
1999 – Hollywood Pictures and Spyglass Entertainment release “The Sixth Sense”
2003 – Walt Disney Pictures releases a remake of “Freaky Friday”

2004 – The world premiere of Walt Disney Pictures’ “The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement” is held at AMC Downtown Disney 12 at the Disneyland Resort

2001 – “The Wayne Brady Show” debuts on ABC

1969 – The Haunted Mansion opens at Disneyland Park

2012 – Princess Fantasy Faire closes at Disneyland Park
2016 – “Pete’s Dragon” was released, based on a reimagining of the 1977 Disney film
