RUMOR: Could Jurassic Park River Adventure be Updated in the Near Future?
Yesterday afternoon, Universal Studios Hollywood officially announced that the iconic Jurassic Park - The Ride will close later this year to receive some major upgrades that will bring to life some of the dinosaurs featured in the Jurassic World movies. Read the press release below to learn more about the changes coming to the California version of this great water ride:
“Jurassic Park—The Ride” to Become Extinct on September 3, 2018.
In 1996, Universal Studios Hollywood redefined theme park thrill rides with the unprecedented introduction of “Jurassic Park—The Ride,” based on three-time Academy Award winner Steven Spielberg’s epic film. Hailed as a technological achievement of triumph and wizardry, the ride featured newly debuted principles of hydraulic physics, mechanics and space-age robotics.
Working in partnership with scientists, palaeontologists and aerospace engineers, Universal Creative—the team that develops Universal theme park rides—brought to life one of the most compelling rides ever created. Life-sized and lifelike animatronic dinosaurs, some towering over five-stories high, freely roamed the earth at Universal Studios Hollywood.
Twenty-two years later—and after sending millions of guests back to the Jurassic era for menacing face-to-face encounters with such predators as Stegosaurus, Parasaurolophus, Dilophosaurus, Velociraptors, and the Tyrannosaurus rex—“Jurassic Park—The Ride” will become extinct in preparation for a new, next-generation experience that’s even more immersive and technologically advanced.
The new ride will pay homage to Jurassic Park and will reimagine this landmark film franchise for theme park guests. The Jurassic Cove restaurant and Jurassic Outfitters retail store also will close with the attraction and reopen with the new experience in 2019.
“The one thing that the history of evolution has taught us is that life finds a way” was famously uttered by Jurassic Park’s Dr. Ian Malcom. In the spirit of this pledge, Universal Studios Hollywood is rallying guests and fans to visit The Entertainment Capital of L.A. as it celebrates this epic ride and prepares for the arrival of the “Jurassic World Ride.”
What About the Islands of Adventure Version of the Attraction?
While the announcement currently only applies to the Universal Studios Hollywood version of the ride, fans are speculating that a similar update could also be on its way to Islands of Adventure. Since the Florida theme park already plans on opening a new ride next year (the family coaster that replaces Dragon Challenge), it is likely that Universal will wait until at least 2020 before introducing these changes if they are actually coming to Islands of Adventure.
In addition to that, it is possible that the "Jurassic World" project might bring more to the park than just an update to Jurassic Park River Adventure. In fact, a number of fan sites (including Inside Universal and Orlando Parkstop) are reporting that Universal Orlando recently filed multiple permits to demolish some of the structures found in the Triceratops Discovery Trail area. This means that Guests might soon be able to experience a brand-new ride in this area of the park...

An update is fine I guess. Just seems when it comes to which is more beloved the original Jurassic Park movie still stands above. Which will last the est of time, I guess.
