This Week in Disney History: March 26-April 1

There’s always a great, big, beautiful tomorrow at The Walt Disney Company, because every day is tied to a milestone in the heritage and rich history of a company that has been entertaining millions of people every year. Published every week, this interesting series features highlights from all the divisions of The Walt Disney Company. Let's see what happened this week:

March 31: 60th anniversary of the Grand Canyon Diorama at Disneyland Park
Leading up to the release of “The Grand Canyon” CinemaScope featurette slated for 1959, the team at WED Enterprises sought to give theme park guests an experience like no other. Leveraging the existing route of the Disneyland Railroad, they installed a 306-foot indoor diorama offering dimensional views of the Grand Canyon several months before the featurette would debut. Guests can view scenery from the South Rim as they slowly ride by in the train to the sounds of Ferde Grofé’s “Grand Canyon Suite.” When it opened this week in Disney history, it was billed as the “Largest Diorama in the World.” The Primeval World diorama on the Disneyland Railroad would be added in 1966 using elements from the Ford Magic Skyway at the 1964-1965 New York World’s Fair.
