Updated Aerial Imagery of Walt Disney World (Sept. 2016)
As we already reported previously, the NearMap site was updated earlier today to show a more current aerial view of Orlando (images are from October 2016).
Thanks to this update, we are able to get an up-close look at some of the areas that are currently under construction around Central Florida's theme parks. In this update we'll check out all of the areas around the Walt Disney World Resort that are under construction. Let's take a look around and see what's new.

MAGIC KINGDOM
Nothing new can be currently seen around the Magic Kingdom Park:
That said, work is being done just outside the park to improve the Guest flow:
EPCOT
Epcot also currently has no visible construction:
DISNEY'S HOLLYWOOD STUDIOS
On the other hand, there's definitely a lot going on around Disney's Hollywood Studios:
The parking lot area is being expanded:
Additionally, two brand-new themed lands are finally taking shape in the back of the park:
Toy Story Land has already gone vertical:
The structure seen at the very top of this picture could be part of the new Slinky Dog coaster:
This large structure might be part of the Green Aliens spinning ride:
The future Star Wars Land is still mostly empty:
DISNEY'S ANIMAL KINGDOM THEME PARK
Pandora continues to take shape at Disney's Animal Kingdom:
It's going to be a really immersive environment:
Disney Springs is finally almost 100% complete:
DISNEY'S TYPHOON LAGOON WATER PARK
Construction continues in the future site of the new Miss Fortune Falls family attraction:
ESPN WIDE WORLD OF SPORTS
The expansion of the ESPN Wide World of Sports continues as well:
According to one of our Readers, the area below will be a service yard for other construction projects:
DISNEY'S WILDERNESS LODGE
The new cabins by the water are under construction at Disney's Wilderness Lodge:
The new pool for the DVC side of the resort is also under construction:
GOLDEN OAK COMMUNITY
It looks like the Golden Oak community is being expanded:

ReplyDeleteI just hope they make good use of that space and have better crowd flow then what Disney/MGM studios had.
The rectangular area in the second picture under ESPN is not part of ESPN, but will be a service yard for the DHS and road projects in the area.
ReplyDeleteThere is significant construction near the boat dock at the entrance to the Magic Kingdom. This will be a new security checkpoint for boat travelers. Such checkpoints will be added to the other transportation stations in the near future.
