Behind the Scenes at Epcot's Spaceship Earth (PART 5)
Welcome to PART 5 of our newest photo-gallery, which celebrates the beauty and majesty of Epcot's Spaceship Earth. PART 4 can be found clicking here.
Did you know that Spaceship Earth was supposed to become a roller coaster in the 1990s? The construction of the new Time Racers (part of the infamous Project Gemini) was going to include the complete removal of the interior show scenes and Audio-Animatronics. Fortunately, it never saw the light of day...

Oh, and don't forget to thank the Phoenicians every now and then. They did a lot for us, remember?
Really cool! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteThis was a GREAT update. Thank you so much for all the close-up photos!
ReplyDeleteNice behind the scenes!
ReplyDeleteSigh, that descent always depressed me, so boring and cheap.
Great job guys!
Awesome update! So how did you get this access? Something tells me you won't answer that. :-)
ReplyDeleteDo you get a chance to see what's in the middle of spaceship earth?
ReplyDeleteAndy: I believe the "middle" (assuming you mean the center) is where the decent takes place. The ascent goes around the "outside" edge. If you Google construction photos you'll see what I mean.
ReplyDeleteThis just made my entire year! The very top of my bucket list is SSE with the lights on! Thanks so much :)
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for this update.
ReplyDeleteLove the behind the scenes photos of spaceship earth.
Can there be more behind the scenes photo updates from other attrations?
Again....thank you for this one.
Matthew from the Netherlands.
That was awesome, thanks! I just wish you'd peeked behind some curtains in the descent to see if any of the old scenes are still there. I just know they are and we want to see them! hehe
ReplyDeleteDo you think you could post a picture of the ride control panel with all the buttons on it?
ReplyDeleteAwesome photos! You mentioned hidden props in the descent section. Doy you think everything is still there? Honestly, I think the new descent is so cheap and strays from the whole animatronics and props theme! SSE is about celebrating humanity's achievements. Just hope it was all about Siemens wanting to change it and everything is still there. Once they change to new sponsor after Siemens see if they can revive that whole scene again. If it happened with Captain EO, it can happen again!
