SeaWorld Reports That Tilikum's Health is Getting Worse
Earlier today, SeaWorld Orlando released additional information about Tilikum's health. Here's what the theme park had to say about this male killer whale:
"Over the past few weeks, Tilikum's behavior has become increasingly lethargic, and the SeaWorld veterinary and animal care teams are concerned that his health is beginning to deteriorate. Since Tilikum became a part of SeaWorld’s family 23 years ago, he has received the best in marine mammal health care."
"Despite the best care available, like all aging animals, he battles chronic health issues that are taking a greater toll as he ages. Our teams are treating him with care and medication for what we believe is a bacterial infection in his lungs. However, the suspected bacteria is very resistant to treatment and a cure for his illness has not been found.
“It has been our duty and passion to make sure we give him the utmost care we possibly can,” said Daniel Richardville, Animal Training Supervisor.
Our veterinarians are focused on managing his illness in a way that makes him comfortable and creates an enriching life. Like many older animals facing significant health issues, his condition may continue to fluctuate, and we will keep his friends and fans updated here on SeaWorld Cares.
Tilikum is beloved by the trainers and vets who care for him each day, as well as the thousands of fans who have connected with him during shows and underwater viewing. We truly appreciate your continued support." Read more about this story on the official SeaWorld Cares website.

In the end, Tilikum wins 3-1.
ReplyDeleteThis is sad no matter his past
ReplyDeleteThis site should stop doing stories from SeaWorld until they stop doing shows with the orcas. It is very sad how the orcas are treated.
ReplyDeleteThey will stop having shows when they no longer have an audience and dispite all the negative press, comments, etc., I don't see the demand going away.
ReplyDeleteI agree, this is very sad on so many levels. That whale should not be in the situation that he is in. I would love for SeaWorld stop all Orca shows. As an animal trainer and behaviorist myself I was grief stricken when I went to SeaWorld a few years ago. The conditions for the animals were deplorable and the abnormal behaviors were heart sickening. I will never go again and I will continually tell people to become more educated before they make the commitment to spend their money there. It is sad that they continue to fill the shows.
ReplyDeleteMy cousin and her small children were there when Tillikum killed his trainer. Read John Hargrove's book, it will open your eyes.
I don't need to read no stupid book from a biased author to know the truth about SeaWorld. I don't need to watch no Hollywood documentary either. I have been going to SeaWorld since 1992. Since I have moved to Florida I visit every week now. Friends with trainers and I see first hand the amount of care provided to these animals. They are extremely lucky and well cared for. These animals almost all were born at the park or brought there as rescues. Nearly 28,000 animals have had second chances at life because of the work SeaWorld does. That's not a small number. The animals don't have to worry about pollution or other man made problems like hunting etc. The shows at SeaWorld are part of the animals enrichment process. If they dont want to perform they dont have to. They will still get all their food they need to eat unlike what some documentaries want to tell you.
ReplyDeleteMillions of people still visit the SeaWorld family of parks every year and attendance ended up for last year as well. So its all a good sign. People still love the parks and they are coming. If you have problems with SeaWorld I sure hope you don't like Disney either. Seas Pavilion at EPCOT houses captive dolphins and manatees and all those poor fish. The dolphins don't even see the light of day. And what about all the captive animals at Animal Kingdom? Soon we are going to have a nighttime safari where we shine spot lights on the animals! I bet they will love that.

This just in animals die. I easily duped crowd you drank the Blackfish cool aide will use this as propaganda. These animals were born at Sea World and would be lost at sea. Further more can anyone of these marine experts truly say they even know that the whales would even want to be quote "set free". They seam to be happy and loved where they are.
