Magic Kingdom Hub and Bypass Update (PART 2)
Welcome to PART 2 of our newest Magic Kingdom hub and Main Street U.S.A. bypass photo-report. PART 1 of can be found by clicking here.
In the previous part of this construction update, we took a look at Main Street U.S.A. and the central hub, focusing on left side of this large area. Now we will continue to check out the area, moving on to the right side of the hub, as well as the backstage bypass. We hope you will enjoy the rest of this update:
One of the many new gardens that will be added as part of the project:

The right side of the hub:
Work on this side seems to be proceeding at a somewhat slower pace:
The sea dragon topiary continues to silently monitor the construction zone:
Not a lot of concrete has been poured in this area in the past few days:
As we stated at the beginning of this update, work on the Main Street U.S.A. bypass continues:
The area is starting to look much better. Notice the details being added:
Time to leave the park:
Before leaving the area, we noticed that new screens have been installed at the Transportation & Ticket Center, which display ticket prices and now highlight popular attractions and events:
And that is all for now. Thank you very much for visiting us, and see you again real soon!

Thanks for the update. The pictures are loading much faster on my Galaxy phone. I could not click on the pictures though, without opening another page.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for the feedback, Anonymous! Today we tested yet another method of posting photos, which does not allow our Readers to see photos on a separate page. We are still working on finding the best solution, so hang in there! ;-)
ReplyDeleteThanks for this update. Do they do the work only while the park is closed? Is the parade affected by the construction?
ReplyDeleteWhere Universal started with their Kong mini land almost half a year later then Disney started their castle parking lot and they are already vertical in a breakneck speed where Disney manage to continue doing ground work and is poring planters.
ReplyDeleteThe walkway behind mainstreet looks very cheap with the stamped stones on there. A covered walkway nicely themed as in the failing Paris park would have looked much better for their guests but I admit this is much cheaper and that is what Disney is all about nowadays I guess.
1. Do they do the work only while the park is closed?
ReplyDeleteUsually. You might see a few guys doing small quiet work as they start to lay some of the utilities, surveying, checking plans etc. But no machinery, and since the park is open to guests the majority of the day, there aren't too many hours available for heavy work.
2. Is the parade affected by the construction?
No the parade route, Main Street is open. The main sidewalks are open. Our favorite place to watch parades remains Liberty Square / Frontierland areas. Lower crowd density, same floats.
To Mark: Its one thing to be irritated by the pace of any construction, but you seem to jump gleefully into realm where"comparisons are odious".
Comparing two vastly different construction projects is ignorant, foolish, - the stuff of other 'fan' forums that seem to breed and thrive on such anger and animosity. Check them out, you'll find many of like mind there...
Have a magical day!
Thank you anonymous for answering my questions!
ReplyDeleteHi thank you for all of your amazing updates I am a huge Disney fan from the UK, we have managed to vacation in Disney 10 times over the years, I am now going to be bringing my Parents and my little girl for the first time in May 2015 so was wondering when the Hub is scheduled to be completed as I would love them to see the area in all of its glory. Thanks in advance. Mark H
ReplyDeleteMark it's listed to be all finished summer 2015 but I think by May most of it will be finished.
ReplyDeleteas usual the only comment I can think of to post is "when is this due for completion"
ReplyDeleteMark, it will be completed by the end of next summer. They still have quite a bit to do.
ReplyDeleteMark,
ReplyDeleteThe difference at Paris is it was designed with the arcades from day one and these were designed for avoiding the rain/cold as Northern Europe doesn't have the same climates as FL or CA. The arcades at DLP also have access into the shops and adding this into MK would lead to huge design changes on the shops.
The alleyways at MK & DL are only for crowd congestion relief during parades fireworks, they are only going to be open for a few hours each day and therefore a basic alleyway theme is fine. They aren't designed to be a route to enter shops during the rain which was the thinking in Paris.
Also if you really did go down the back alley of shops in "Main Street" that brickwork is probably what you'd find!
It's also important to remember that unlike DLP where the arcades were planned from the off, Magic Kingdom needs access to the rear of the shops for deliveries etc... so if an enclosed arcade was constructed it would block off the access required.
