Hollywood Studios: FastPass+ Test at Toy Story Mania
An important test is currently taking pace at Disney's Hollywood Studios, which could impact your visit. Until October 9, Guests visiting the park will be able to ride Toy Story Midway Mania exclusively by making use of the FastPass+ service (FastPass+ admissions have been greatly increased during this test, meaning that Guests will have more opportunities to make same-day reservation.). While the standby queue will not operate during the test, it will return October 10, following this testing period.
While the Walt Disney World Resort has not officially stated the reason behind this test, rumors say that the test is linked to the almost-confirmed expansions of Toy Story Midway Mania and Soarin'.
As you will remember, Soundstage One officially became a construction zone on October 5, 2014 to make way for an additional track to be used as part of the Toy Story Midway Mania attraction. With the new addition, there will be a total of three different ride paths. For that reason, Disney needs to understand how to "divide" the attraction, finding an answer to this question: "will they need two tracks for FastPass+ and one for stand-by OR one track for FastPass+ and two for stand-by?"
This test will also help to understand how to operate Soarin' once the third theater gets built. Based on the latest FastPass+ tests, Disney will soon be able to maximize the capacity of both attractions.

The wording here is a bit odd. Saying 'Guests visiting the park will only be able to use FastPass+ to ride Toy Story Midway Mania' Makes me think the only FP+ you can get at HS is Toy Story. How about 'Guests will only be able to ride Toy Story Midway Mania if they have a FP+' instead?
ReplyDeleteWow, no standby line at all right now. Seems like this 3rd track is for sure. The current work permit was filed for the same company that worked on the original attraction.
ReplyDeleteHopefully the end of an era with the 90 min wait times.
Some people are thinking that this move to fast pass only might mean no more waiting in line for at least this ride and the only way to ride is to have a fast pass. No fast pass, no chance to ride. If you do not pick a fast pass for the ride, you will not get on it at all. Comments?
ReplyDeleteHaving a fast pass only ride is the same as admitting that fast pass plus is a failure which I think it is. Some rides like seven dwarfs mine coaster never have any fast passes available even 30 days out. There are going to be a lot of P O'd guests out there that can' get on the ride.
