Busch Gardens Tampa Welcomes Aardvark Baby

Busch Gardens welcomed its newest resident on Tuesday, August 5: an adorable aardvark. The healthy baby is expected to grow to more than 120 lbs. within its first year of life. Aardvarks are solitary by nature, and aardvark births are not common. The animal care team at Busch Gardens is proud to announce that this is the fourth baby born to parents “Izzy” and “Friz”: “Kiazi” was born Feb. 6, 2013, “Adazee” was born on March 26, 2012 and “Zawadi” was born April 10, 2011.

The baby, whose sex is unknown at this time, is receiving primary care from its mother and additional care from members of the animal care team. The baby is still behind-the-scenes, but will be in guest view in the coming days at Jambo Junction, located in the Nairobi area of the park.

Busch Gardens is owned by SeaWorld Parks & Entertainment™, one of the world’s foremost zoological organizations and a worldwide leader in animal welfare, training, husbandry and veterinary care. The company collectively cares for one of the largest animal collections on the North American continent and has helped lead advances in the care of species in zoological facilities and in the conservation of wild populations.
