Walt Disney World Monorail Hours Adjustments from June 22
As some of our Readers may have already heard in the past, the Walt Disney World Resort's monorail operating system is currently in the process of being updated and enhanced with a state-of-the-art automated train control system, which will allow Guests to make use of a more efficient method of transportation between parks and hotels. To accommodate this work, the monorail service hours on the Magic Kingdom and Epcot beams will be adjusted beginning June 22, 2014.
As a result of this major project (which has been undergoing for a few months), monorail service will run from:
- 8:30 a.m.-12 a.m. (midnight) on the Magic Kingdom Resort beam;
- 9:30 a.m.-11:30 p.m. on the Magic Kingdom Express beam;
- 9 a.m.-11 p.m. on the Epcot beam.
Watercraft and additional buses will be available to transport Guests to their destinations.
The state-of-the-art technology will enable Disney to monitor and control trains in a more comprehensive and sophisticated way. Common in the transit industry, this new automatic train control system will:
- Govern speed and braking through an integrated computer system;
- Enable us to operate trains more efficiently, with the ability to run trains in more frequent intervals and reduces switching time, ultimately reducing wait times for guests;
- Includes additional mechanical and safety features, such as automated track switching capabilities and maintenance work zones safeguards, resulting in reduced system downtimes.
These adjustments will likely last through the summer. We will share updates as we receive them. Stay tuned.
