AVATAR Land Gets A Possible Official Name and More
Information regarding the new AVATAR-themed land (opening in 2017 at Disney's Animal Kingdom Theme Park) have been scarce since the original announcement. A few artworks and videos were released a few years later, but the actual number of attractions, shows, restaurants, and stores that will part of this area are still a mystery to this day. That being said, James Cameron (the producer of the AVATAR movies) recently revealed some very interesting new details about this project.
In fact, one of the recent articles published on SlashFilm includes an interview with James Cameron in which he states that Animal Kingdom's new themed area might be officially called Pandora: The Land of Avatar.
In addition to that, here you are some additional information shared by James Cameron himself:
"It’s going to have floating mountains. It’s pretty cool. I've seen the model and the design work the Imagineering people have done is spectacular. They've got a quarter inch to the foot scale model of the whole park and I've looked at all the sight lines… it’s not a park, it’s a land within the park but a land is not just a ride. There will be several rides and a number of other attractions. It’s really just a place you’re gonna wanna go and hang out. It’s gonna be gorgeous. Of course it’s gonna be gorgeous at night and they’re using every new trick, every new bit of technology that they've created.
The animatronics for the Na’vi characters are gonna be fantastic. For example, their early animatronics would use 12 axis of motion and I think the most they've ever done was 32 axis recently. I think they’re up to 64 just in the face of the Na’vi characters. So it’s gonna be remarkable. They really see it as a major, major attraction."
As you can see, it certainly sound like the new area is going to include more than just one or two attractions. Recent rumors were floating around saying that the boat ride was recently cancelled, and the land would just consist of a flight simulator and a walk-through attraction. Hopefully James Cameron was aware of the current state of the project when he made that assertion. If that's the case, it looks like there will be a lot to do around Pandora. Also, we may soon come face-to-face with some seriously cool Audio-Animatronics...
What do you think? Are you excited about this project, or are you still not convinces about it? Let us know.

ReplyDeleteThe same thing the rest of the world did.
Special effects, don't make a mediocre story memorable.
This movie faded from people's minds faster than Signs or Hancock.
And now this is something that will permanently be apart of Walt Disney World.
Avatar was always more about the experience, not the story (hmm, sound familiar to a Disney theme park fan). And since it's still the highest-grossing film, and best-selling blu-ray ever, I'd say a lot of people enjoyed and still enjoy it.
ReplyDeleteIf you don't like it, then don't go. One less person in line for what will probably be an amazing land.
Besides, no one complained that Mr. Toad was given a large piece of Fantasyland real estate, and almost no one has seen his (half of a) movie.
