Disney's Polynesian Resort to Be Completely Re-Imagined
Among the many announcements that were made yesterday at the Walt Disney World Resort there were also some very interesting news regarding Disney's Polynesian Resort, one of the most beloved Disney hotels ever created. In fact, the resort will not only receive a new name (we have started calling it Disney's Polynesian Village Resort since the first rumors came out, as they were already almost confirmed); it will actually receive a complete re-imagining. Take a look at some of the new artworks released yesterday:
First of all, the entrance will include a new sign that will take Guests back to the 1970's and 1980's:
Once inside the lobby of the hotel, Guests will notice the lack of the large water feature that still greets Guests to this day as they enter. Many Disney fans are lamenting this change, as it seems to be one of the favorite features of this hotel. We will see if Disney will listen to them and maybe slightly change these plans:
Possibly one of the most exciting news, though, is the addition of Trader Sam's Grog Grotto, a bar/lounge where Guests can eat and drink something in a calm and relaxed atmosphere, surrounded by themed props:

The Water Falls and parrots inside is what brings the charm to the resort. And now Disney wants to fix something that does not need fixing.
ReplyDeleteThe large centerpiece of the lobby is one of the most unique features of the resort. This is a most sad developement to see it go. My family has taken so many pictues of it and it truly serves as continuity of the tropical theme as you come in from the outside. I'm certiain this change will be motivated by some way of earning more money as usual. Shame

ReplyDeleteI do find it ironic that Disney wants to capitalize on the nostalgia of the resort by changing the name back to Polynesian Village, but yet they're removing the iconic waterfall inside that most fans associate with the Polynesian. Disney makes no sense sometimes. It's all about $$$$
I can imagine that the fountain is costly to run and maintain, but it's a shame to see it go... The bar doesn't quite make up for it, especially considering that you can get a drink at the pool now or upstairs in the evening.
ReplyDeleteWhen I worked at the Polynesian Resort in the mid 90s there was talk of removing the waterfall and gardens due to some structural issues. I am surprised it has taken this long to actually move ahead with it.
