This Week in Disney History: December 20-26
Dec. 24, 2002 - Walt Disney Pictures releases “The Aristocats.”
When Duchess and her three kittens are cat-napped by a greedy butler and left in the countryside, it takes the help of a smooth talking tomcat named Thomas O’Malley and a few of his friends to help them find their way back to Paris. This group of felines embark on a jazzy journey through the rooftops of the city, meeting a few colorful characters along the way. “The Aristocats” took a total of four years to produce and was crafted by some of Disney’s core animators, known to many as “Disney’s Nine Old Men.” The title song from the film, also titled “The Aristocats,” was written by the Sherman Brothers, who were known for composing a number of musical scores for other Disney films. Noted as being one of the last film projects to be approved by Walt Disney himself, it is also the 20th animated feature in the Walt Disney Animated classics series.
