This Week in Disney History: November 1 - 7
Nov. 1, 1986 - The Golden Horseshoe Jamboree premiers at Disneyland Park
Since its grand opening in July 1955, the Golden Horseshoe Saloon has been home to multiple stage shows and evening entertainment, offering Guests the opportunity to relive the golden era of Disneyland Park. One of several original buildings dating back to the opening of the Disneyland Resort in 1955, The Golden Horseshoe was also where Walt Disney and his wife, Lillian, celebrated their 30th anniversary with the debut performance of the original Golden Horseshoe Revue. This was the longest running stage show at the location until the introduction of its successor, the Golden Horseshoe Jamboree in 1986. In late 2012, Disneyland Park announced that they would welcome back the revue as a part of Limited Time Magic. “A Salute to the Golden Horseshoe Revue” featured some of the classic numbers from the original Frontierland show.
Nov. 5, 2004 - Walt Disney Pictures/Pixar Animation Studios releases “The Incredibles”
“The Incredibles” tells the story of a family of “supers” - humans gifted with superpowers - who are forced to leave their quiet suburban life and take action to save the world. The initial idea was pitched to Pixar Animation Studios in 2000 when writer and director Brad Bird reconnected with his friend from college, John Lasseter. The animation team was tasked with creating an all-human cast, developing some of the most realistic clothing, skin and hair in the world of animation at the time. As a result, the film broke ground for Computer Generated Imagery (CGI) for Pixar, and went on to be the first animated film to win the prestigious Hugo Award for Best Dramatic Presentation. Today, characters from the film can be seen at both Walt Disney World Resort and Disneyland Resort in a variety of entertainment offerings.
