Updates from Kennedy Space Center (Aug. 6-15, 2013)
The Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex just sent us some updates that may interest our Readers:
1. Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex guests who assemble their own “Atlantis Crew” can save up to 20 percent off regular admission. The “Atlantis Crew” admission special features 10 percent off for two guests, 15 percent off for three guests, and 20 percent off for four or more guests. Tickets must be purchased by September 2, 2013 for this special offer.
2. Visitor Complex guests can enjoy viewing a dramatic nighttime launch when a 200-foot-tall Delta 4 rocket lifts off from SLC-37B at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station on Wednesday, Aug. 7. The launch window is from 8:29 p.m. to 9:18 p.m. Viewing the launch from the Visitor Complex, the closest possible public viewing area, is included in regular admission. Guests are encouraged to bring folding chairs to the viewing area. Leading up to the opening of the launch window, guests may meet the first space shuttle Atlantis commander, Karol “Bo” Bobko, at the new Space Shuttle Atlantis attraction from 6 to 8 p.m.
3. Veteran NASA astronauts will meet with visitors at Astronaut Encounter:
- Space Shuttle Astronaut Jon McBride, Aug. 6-8
- Space Shuttle Astronaut Bruce Melnick, Aug. 9-11
- Space Shuttle Astronaut Jon McBride, Aug. 12 and 13
- Space Shuttle Astronaut Rick Searfoss, Aug. 14 and 15
4. Helle Thorning-Schmidt, the prime minister of Denmark, and her family visited Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex on Saturday, July 20. Bob Cabana, Kennedy Space Center director and four-time space shuttle astronaut, met the group for a personal tour of the new Space Shuttle Atlantis to experience seeing a real orbiter and hear first hand what it was like to be an astronaut during NASA’s 30-year Space Shuttle Program.
