Universal Orlando Seeing Increase in Film Production
Universal Orlando is once again seeing a quite important increase in the number of films, animated movies, and live shows produced on site, specifically at Universal Studios Florida. That's a great news, as the park was initially conceived to be also a movie production facility (hence the huge number of soundstages present in the backstage areas, which have mostly been used for special events only up until a couple of years ago). Updates from the Universal Studios Florida Production Group
Our backlot and soundstages have seen an uptick in activity ever since the state of Florida adopted the Entertainment Industry Financial Incentive Program in July, 2010. Designed to bring more film, television, and digital media production to our state, the program has directly benefited our Universal Studios Florida Production Group (USFPG).
Programs such as MTV “the inbetweeners”, TruTv’s “UPLOAD” with Shaquille O’Neal, TV Pilots including “BAD MOM” (ABC) and “BIG MIKE (Sony), and features such as “Tooth Fairy 2” and “The Renee Project” have increased soundstage, backlot, and facility rental revenue for the Production Group.
In addition, SPIKE TV’s “IMPACT” is still going strong as a live production in Soundstage 21 since 2004 and the show’s ratings continue to grow. When taping, Universal Studios Florida guests have the opportunity to be part of a live studio audience and be up close with the stars of the show.
This year has been especially important to the Production Group as digital media production is now taking place right on our lot! Premise Entertainment was founded after the closing of Disney Animation. Today, Premise is thriving, creating animation for films such as “Cinderella 3: A Twist in Time” (Disney), “Curious George” (Universal & Imagine), and “The Princess & the Frog” (Disney), just to name a few. They also just began work on a new major animated feature. With over 80 weeks of work and Florida animators on this film, the State of Florida’s digital media incentive made this production happen here rather than LA, NY or Canada – a major milestone for our community and our production lot.
In 2013, USFPG plans to host even more TV series, commercials, and features while housing Universal Orlando events... Our Soundstages will continue to support unique special events like Grad Bash and Gradventure. “I am so proud of our Production Group’s success over the past year and am excited about our future,” says Pamela Tuscany, Vice President & General Manager (USFPG). “We will continue to educate on the benefits that these film incentives bring to our organization and community, keep Florida a thriving production location, and keep Production going strong at Universal Studios Florida.”

Universal Orlando is really going strong in many fronts. This is definitely a new golden decade for the resort.
That is greet and also a bit funny, Disney movies beeing made at Universal.
