This Week in Disney History: November 2-8
Nov. 7, 1997 - Citricos opens at Disney's Grand Floridian Resort & Spa
Get ready for a signature dining experience with the flair of southern Europe in one of the Walt Disney World Resort's most elegant settings. With the Grand Floridian blending American and classic Victorian design influences, Citricos offers a twist upon the theme with a warm, Mediterranean-styled dining room as the setting to enjoy American fare inspired by the cuisine of Provence, Tuscany, and the Spanish Riviera. Some tables even have a view of the impressive show kitchen, where you can watch Citricos' taste sensations being crafted. The menu changes frequently, and the seafood, pastas and risottos vary with the seasons, but a constant favorite are the steaks cooked over an oak grill. For a further culinary adventure, enter the Chef's Domain at Citricos, where the chefs interact with Guests in a private dining room to create a custom dinner menu of seasonal a la carte dishes, while a sommelier provides pairings from an international wine list.
Nov. 4, 2005 - Walt Disney Pictures releases "Chicken Little"
"Look out, the sky is falling!" One little overreaction to an unidentified flying object sent the residents of Oakley Oaks running into the streets in panic. "Chicken Little" picks up a year after the classic fable leaves off, and in the aftermath of the incident, the bespectacled fowl has become the town's No. 1 outcast. Although he gets by with some help from his fish-out-of-water friends, the bird wants badly to get his self-confidence back and make his dad proud. Chicken Little begins to cross this street by becoming an unlikely star on the school baseball team, but just as things start looking up, the sky really does begin to fall. A cover-up straight out of science fiction is revealed, and the fate of the entire planet may rest upon one brave chicken. This was the first fully computer-animated film from the Walt Disney Animation Studios, featuring the voices of Zach Braff, Joan Cusack, Amy Sedaris and television legend Don Knotts in one of his final roles. Director Mark Dindal also helmed Disney's hand-drawn "The Emperor's New Groove" (2000).
