Disney's Conservation Fund Hits $20 Million Milestone

The Disney Worldwide Conservation Fund (DWCF) announced its 2012 annual grants, awarding more than $1.8 million to conservation projects across the globe and marking the fund’s $20 million milestone in conservation giving. Since its founding in 1995, DWCF has supported more than 800 projects in 112 countries on six continents.  

The recipient organizations, announced Sept. 7, were selected for their efforts to protect wildlife, preserve habitats, engage communities through education and ensure that future generations can enjoy wildlife and wild places. Seventy-five conservation organizations received cash awards this year, including:

• Fauna and Flora International for spearheading conservation efforts in four countries to protect whales, sea turtles, Siamese crocodiles and Saiga antelope as well as connecting nearly 2,000 students with the Local Ocean Trust through education resources teaching wildlife protection.
• National Audubon Society for providing hands-on activities and stewardship projects for nearly 2,000 third- to sixth-grade students related to climate change and habitat restoration through the Maine Seabird Conservation and Outreach program.
• Northern Jaguar Project for working with ranchers to implement conservation management strategies designed to reduce jaguar mortality and human-wildlife conflict through project “Viviendo con Felinos.”

DWCF is supported by Guest contribution opportunities at merchandise and other select locations, including Disney’s Wilderness Lodge, Fort Wilderness, Disney’s Port Orleans Resort, Disney Vacation Club Resorts and Disney Cruise Line. Other funding comes from Disney’s Animal Kingdom merchandise initiatives like reusable bags and from special Guest programs at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park, Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge and The Seas with Nemo and Friends.
