SeaWorld Orlando Rescues Manatee in Cocoa Beach

SeaWorld Orlando's Rescue team just found a wounded manatee in Cocoa Beach, found on the East Coast of Florida. Take a look, and learn more about this rescue:

SeaWorld Orlando Rescues Wounded Manatee in Cocoa Beach, Fla.

Orlando, Fla. – SeaWorld Orlando’s Animal Rescue Team rescued a manatee injured from a boat strike to its upper back, this afternoon near Cocoa Beach, Fla. The manatee was found by a concerned resident floating unusually on its right side in Brevard County’s Banana River. The resident notified Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) about the animal, and they contacted SeaWorld to conduct the rescue.

SeaWorld rescued the nearly eight-foot-long female sub-adult, and was transported to SeaWorld Orlando for further evaluation and care. After suffering boat strike wounds, manatees sometimes float unusually due to a number of reasons. SeaWorld’s Animal Rescue Team will conduct tests on the manatee to determine the nature of her injuries.
