Pirates of the Caribbean: More Queue Modification
As we reported back in July, some quite important changes are coming to the queue line of the pirates of the Caribbean attraction, located in the Magic Kingdom Park. Our first photo-update showed mostly some aesthetic changes (i.e. - new lights, cannon balls on the walls, etc.). This time we will show you some more changes that seem to confirm the addition of a FASTPASS line to the attraction. Let's take a look:
First of all, we asked ourselves if this hidden passage be used again in the future (it was used briefly when a section of the queue had to be closed for the installation of some unknown special features):
A new, quite large gate has been installed in the former passageway to the harbor:
More cannon balls and half-destroyed walls:
Also, a new wooden bridge has been built between the two queue lines, possibly to allow the merging point of the new FASTPASS queue:
A small, themed divisor between the two lines:
More photos of the new small bridge:
A view of the new wooden structure from the other side of the queue line:
So, what is your opinion on the matter? Do you think this attraction really needs FASTPASS? Having been able to visit the park weekly for the past three years, we can undoubtedly say that the wait times for this attraction rarely exceed 10 minutes. Unfortunately, Disney has to spend the $1 billion allocated for the Next-Gen project in some way, right? Gloomy days ahead or not? We'll let you decide if this is the right way to spend $1 billion.
God, No. Pirates doesn't need FastPass!!! For goodness sake!
ReplyDeleteIt's clear Disney wants to fill thier underperforming rides and the only way to do that is to let people think they should go there because of a fastpass. It's kind of sad because what they should do is build more attractions people want to get on and are as awesome as Splash Mountain or Tower of Terror.
ReplyDeleteI don't like Disney telling me how to vacation. I'll try it and if I don't like it I'll move to Universal or Sea World to spent my entrtainment dollars.

ReplyDeleteHow is Disney telling you how to Vacation? They are not MAKING you do anything..Your logic on this is quite scary..
I believe this happening for a different reason: When Dismey finishes the Fantasyland expansion, they will expect much larger crowds in MK. All the renovations will be complete and they want the park to be construction and renovation free as soon as the Seven Dwarves Mine Train is complete.
ReplyDeleteYou are [wrong] if you think for one second that Pirates is underperforming. It consistently carries more guests than any other WDW ride. If it had the same capacity as other rides, you would see that wait times mean NOTHING in terms of popularity.
ReplyDeleteSecond, Disney doesn't want to just throw thrill rides in every park. That is not now or will ever be Disney's business model. Let universal do their thrill rides and still come in 2nd.

The way I see it, we are better off without Fastpass. ...But as HM's Ghost Host would say, "There's no turning back now!" The longest I have waited for Pirates was probably about 30 minutes, but it didn't really bother me, probably because this is one of my favorite queues. Perhaps the addition of what looks like a bit extra queue, as well as Fastpass, can create a much more refreshing indoor wait. It beats waiting outside in the string of queue ropes while having to stare at other bewildered Guests who think they're the only ones on vacation.
