A Quick Look Inside the Amazing Cottage of Maurice

"This is absolutely amazing! How do they do that!?"

That is exactly what we told ourselves when watching the newest video of Maurice's Cottage posted on the Disney Parks Blog. Yes, Disney did it again. They were able to surprise and amaze us, even in such an age where advanced technology seems to be an everyday thing. Take a look inside this fantastic place, but, beware! What may look a simple themed environment is going to turn into an incredibly immersive experience...

Here's the post including the video, all from the official Disney Parks Blog:

All in the Details: Step Inside the World of Belle Through Her Magic Mirror at Magic Kingdom Park

We’ve hinted before on the Disney Parks Blog that Enchanted Tales with Belle, in New Fantasyland at Magic Kingdom Park, will be no ordinary character greeting. Today, we’re excited to share more details about this special experience. As you’ll see from the video below – provided by Walt Disney Imagineering – the goal of this attraction is not just to give you a place to meet a Disney character, but to completely transport you into the world of “Beauty and The Beast.”

The journey begins at Maurice’s Cottage, where they’ll walk through the whimsical garden and find inventions created by Belle’s tinkerer father, Maurice. Inside are books, pictures and other symbols that define the home of Belle and Maurice and their lives there, including leftover gadgets and artifacts from experiments gone awry. But guests also will see a mirror that magically becomes a portal into Beast’s Castle…

To be continued!

So, if you have never commented before, this is the time to share your thoughts with us. We definitely want to know what you think about this great additions, and we also want to hear your explanation on how you think the Imagineers were able to design the portal. In fact, we still cannot figure out how this works! Amazing.

  1. Hello! I am very excited for these areas of New Fantasyland to open! First I want to say thank you for all of the picture updates. They are really great and I can't wait to read a new one! About the additions, the pictures and videos that The Disney Parks Blog has shown us have been amazing and I know that the whole land will be way better than what I can even expect! I am really excited! I think that in the picture frame in Maurice's cottage, maybe the mirror and the wall below the picture frame are connected and disappear above the frame in the wall or below the frame in the floor, or maybe the mirror goes up into a space in the wall above the frame while the wall goes down into the floor. I don't know how they do it! And now I want to see it in person!

  2. WOW! Just amazing.
If this is just a small part of what we will be seeing in the new Fantasyland expansion, then Disney has really stepped up their game. It's still no surprise why they are the top of the theme park industry.

  3. i never seeing myself ever going inside...
just doesn't appeal to me and probably my demographic. wheres the ride? all this for just a meet and greet? can't imagine how long a wait this would be too... this gives me the same negative feelings as that boring sorcerer's game.
    no thank you.

  4. Look you can go into Maurice's house. Yep, before we could go in Mickey's house. It has an amazing bucket as a lamp fixture.
This is all very low capacity stuff except for the Mermaid ride that is the exact story of the movie, why? Because Disney can't tell new stories?
The mine train will also be a very low capacity ride, probably only accessible for the very rich who can book the ride in advance because they stay in a expensive Disney hotel when they rest can gaze at another concrete mountain, the only theme Disney can do well now a days.
The effect is very nice indeed, like Disco Yeti. Let hope they don't mess this one up and have it working every time.
Yes the new area looks nice but all the money spent on theming could have gone partially into a new ride system and new stories. This is money not well spent.

  5. The wall under the mirror is like the curtain in mickeys philarmagic and when the doors appear the white projection screen will go up like blinds to reveal doors

  6. Wow, it never ceases to amaze me how negative people can be.

This is clearly a top-notch environment that will be a big hit with those to whom it is aimed.

If you don't like it, don't ride it or walk through it. There's a Six Flags or a Carrowinds conveniently located near you, just waiting to rise to your high expectations.

  8. Not for me, I live in Florida.
Thankfully while Disney wastes money on expensive meet and greets and fastpass lines; universal is spending money on new rides, same with seaworld!
to see disney fall so far, is just sad to someone like me who has had a annual pass for the pass four years to disney. this is the first year i decided to go with universal.

  9. I have to agree with all the people who ARE excited about the new Fantasy land! If all you want is rides, then you're absolutely right: Universal or Seaworld or your closest Six Flags is the best bet. Disney isn't about just rides. They don't even use that term. They're called attractions for a reason. What Disney does better than anyone on the planet is theming and atmosphere. Maurice's cottage is exactly that. Remember, this is Magic Kingdom. It's targeted to little kids, not most of us who post on this blog. I for on can't wait to just sit on a bench and soak this all in.

  10. If I pay to go to a THEME park and get something like I just witnessed in that video, I consider it money well spent. Jason is right. Disney dislikes using the term "ride". It sounds way too carnival-ish. They've always been about taking you away from the real world and bringing to life a fictional one that you can actually believe exists. Whether it comes in the form of a 3D show, a motion simulator, a dark ride or a high-speed coaster; storytelling always comes first.

  11. @Jason and JiffyPop,

    Exactly.

    @Anonymous who lives in Florida:

I would imagine Six Flags is as close to you as WDW is to me. I think you're making the right choice (for you) in going to Universal instead.

  12. I don't understand... I had an annual to universal a year ago and I was very done with the parks by the time it was over. Talk about a concrete jungle... The edges of HP are lined with 3 inches of caulk. Ugh, what an eyesore of a park with all of 4 actual rides.
