Fantasyland Update: Skyway Work Continues (Part 1)

The new Fantasyland is quickly taking shape, and more new details and additions appear every week behind the walls. Let's have a look at the latest work that has been done in the area, with our first stop being the former Fantasyland Skyway, which is now almost completely surrounded by a partially-themed wall. Let's see:

No work appears to have been done on the Skyway structure itself:

At least, not yet:

The new walls are still not completely enclosing the area, as the stroller parking is still open:

Behind the walls. Literally:

We surely hope this new path will not create more congestion, as the area where the path will end is right next to an attraction, a shop, and a restaurant:

A look at the recently-refurbished top of Prince Charming's Regal Carrousel:

Strangely, the roof present quite a few imperfections:

Progress on the new Fantasyland walls:

The big posters on the walls have all disappeared. We are really approaching the opening date:

Maurice's Cottage:

The Beast's Castle:

A close look at the fantastic rock-work:

Gaston's Village (also known as Belle's Village):

The loooong Fantasyland wall:

Lots of planters can be found along the wall:

  1. I really expected more detail out of the Beast's castle. Don't get me wrong, it looks lovely, but it's no Hogwarts. I was hoping it would have masonry, finer looking steeples (they practically look like lightning rods) and it deserves actual shingles instead of paint. It still looks great from a distance though, and I suppose that's where it was intended to be viewed from.

  2. Wow, we finally get to see a picture of the Haunted Mansion! :)

  3. I agree with the comment about Beast's castle. It looks so, well, lifeless and flat. There's no excuse for it being the scale as ALL of the structures in Storybookland at Disneyland are much smaller and much more detailed, both in actual sculpted details and painted details. I also find the rockwork around this area to be a bit lack-luster. It looks more like the rockwork of the 1950's Matterhorn than what they are truly capable of producing now.

  4. Uh-oh. Sounds like a couple of trouble-makers are just looking for things to pick apart and complain about, in an attempt to discredit the new Fantasyland... :'(

  5. Although Hogwarts is impressive, for me, it's too close to the walkway area to lend itself to actual forced perspective. To me, it really looks like a miniature. Beast's Castle, on the other hand, because it's so far away and totally unapproachable, looks right (from a forced perspective stance).

Just my 2-cents! Can't wait to be able to walk around here!

  6. I'd hardly label critiquing a work of art being a "trouble-maker".

  7. It's a little useless to criticize/critique something before it's finished and opened to the public, don't you think?

  8. Good point Ash, but the parts of the castle were all readied before being crane-lifted for assembly. But who knows, maybe more work is going to be done to it. I'd like to see the pointed arch motifs added on either side of the castle gate. That was one of the most striking parts of the entrance in the film.
