JAWS Salutes Annual Passholders for the Last Time

Just a couple of days ago, a very small, one-page brochure was delivered to all Universal Orlando Annual Passholders. It reminds them that JAWS - The Ride will close on January 2, 2012. Here's a copy of the letter, kindly sent in by one of our readers:

As you can see, the letter does not refer to any special event taking place on January 2, 2012, but it does encourage annual passholders to come to celebrate "one final ride." Even though we found this letter to be quite general, we are sure there will be some sort of tribute on January 2, 2012. After all, this is/was one of the greatest attractions of the park.

Before leaving you, we wanted to ask you a trivia question, to see if you really know JAWS' history:

"For how long did JAWS remain closed soon after the grand opening of the park due to major technical issues?" HINT: It's more than a few months...

  2. When is the photo tribute going to be posted?

  3. About 3 years. The original ride opened in June of 1990, closed in August of that year and then after all the technical issues were worked out, it was re-opened in 1993.

  6. I read today that the space Jaws is in will become Wizarding World 2. What a shame that such a great ride is being torn down while there is so much wasted space. About the closest I can think of a situation like this is when Disney tor down the 20,000 leagues under the sea ride.

  7. @Todd: Expect the photo-tribute near the end of the year, so that we can gather all the pictures and videos we need!

@All those who answered our Trivia question: If you answered 3 years, that's exactly right! It took Universal that long to reopen the ride, due to the fact that they had to completely remove and replace the ride's system, as it was not working correctly. Universal even had to sue the manufacturer of the attraction, as the situation was really bad.

    Thanks for participating!
