Strike 3: Orlando Thrill Park Project Not Happening
Here we are again... The Orlando Thrill Park seems to have been cancelled, and this time for good, as the owners of the land themselves may have made some changes in the zoning of their property, to use it it for other purposes (not for entertainment venues, like a theme park). Read more, from a Screamscape article:

"The Orlando Thrill Park project may not be back after all. According to a
Screamscape source, the land owner is actually seeking to rezone 7 acres of the
property to be used for office space. According to a quote sent in from the
application, “the southwest portion of the subject property is being rezoned
from AC-3/SP to O-1/SP so that the site's zoning will be consistent with the
recently adopted Office Low Intensity future land use designation.” So… looks
like the Orlando Thrill Park is still dead in the water."
- Thanks again to Screamscape for providing these new pieces of information.

So, it looks like there is a near-zero chance to see this project back for a fourth time. This doesn't mean that it will be the last time you'll hear the name "Orlando Thrill Park," as we are preparing an interesting post showing you how the park would have looked like, including all the rides an attractions planned to be built.
What do you think about this decision? Are you disappointed that the park may never be built (and, it definitely looks like it will never see the light of day)? Please, share with us your opinions.
its not really a surprise to hear the thrill park is dead in the water.
ReplyDeleteAlthough I am very keen to see such a park in Orlando I feel the people behind this project were very amateurish about how they went about it.
While such a park would require a good number of signature rides such as those proposed, I feel the thrill park was attempting to cram far too much into too small an area. There appeared to be limited parking space allocated, potentially meaning the park reached parking capacity regularly, which would be a major turn-off for visitors. No room was allowed for further expansion: it was inevitable that the Thrill Parks groundbreaking roller coasters would be trumped by other theme parks and therefore new attractions would be required to compete. A lack of expansion / modernisation would blight this park the same way Old Town became stale, prior to their recent changes.
I also feel the construction timescale they were intending to work to was overambitious. If their business plan was designed around being open by an unrealistic date, then they were doomed before they even opened
I hope the Orlando Thrill Park project will arise one day from the ashes of this initial proposal, but it needs to be on an alternative, much larger piece of land and be organised with a more coherent long term business plan
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOoooooooooooooooooooooooo.......
ReplyDeleteBye Bye Orlando Thrill Park.... I hope someday will remember of you in the next year!!!!
I don't think the park is dead at all. It just won't be built in that particular location. There is A LOT of available land within 10 miles of that location (just look at Google Earth). I agree with the comments above about the size of the land. Building a new park that has no room to expand is a recipe for financial disaster. Even Walt Disney learned this the hard way with Disneyland.
