Universal Studios - Low Season Means Big Changes (1)

Jimmy Neutron being replaced, Shrek 4D using a second theater, Universal 360 being removed, Fear Factor closed again, Fast Five cars moved... Now it is the best time to make changes in the parks. Crowds are extremely low, and this is going to get even better (or worse, for the parks) with the beginning of September.

Talking about this update, it is going to be one of the biggest since the site's conception, so be prepared. We've got a lot of things to talk about (we listed some of those things at the beginning of the post, to give you a preview), so let's start right away:

Talking about minor news - Universal has removed some of their notorious banners located on the entrance/exit bridge:

BEFORE:

NOW:

They should be under refurbishment:

Welcome to Universal Studios Florida - Where showbiz is:

The Universal Studios Store has finally received its official logo back, which has been refurbished:

BEFORE:

NOW:

The big news of the day: JIMMY NEUTRON'S NICKTOON BLAST is finally gone, forever:

It is unbelievable to see how fast they can be in repainting an entire building:

Take a look:

BEFORE:

NOW:

The working walls have some "Despicable Me" advertisements:

We still have to know which kind of ride system they will be using. I certainly hope they will get rid of that simulator. I absolutely avoided Jimmy Neutron not only for the movie, but also for the jerky motions of the ride:

A "G." Having not seen the movie, I feel a bit lost:

You can see the silhouette of the movie's gentle villain:

No more Jimmy Neutron sign. What a dream!

BEFORE:

NOW:

No more Nicktoons on the side of the building:

Now, let's move on to another quite interesting news. Did you know that Shrek 4D had TWO theaters?:

This is the entrance to the pre-show room. That was the only way to enter the theater I had ever seen... until yesterday!:

This is the entrance to the normal queue, and there's nothing new here:

But, look! We're going toward the back of the theater! Here, we are looking behind ourselves:

And here we are looking toward the queue that leads to the second pre-show room:

The extended queue... never seen being used:

And we're still walking:

They have some tv screens here too:

We're going so far in the back that we could even see the back of the facades of the Hollywood area:

After, we turn left, and we find another long section of the queue:

Here too we find the jokes about Disney's attractions:

This joke doesn't work at all here in Florida, as we don't have the "Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln" show at the Magic Kingdom:

Entering the pre-show area:

Maybe they've gone too far with these jokes about Disney:

The pre-show area looks almost exactly like the other one:

The second theater looks much smaller than the bigger on. We thought this was a great surprise, though. Are they renovating the bigger theater? Do they usually open the smaller theater when the crowds are very light? We are not sure...

The Hollywood theater is still missing a banner from one side:

Twister:

New York:

The (creepy) characters from Hop are still here:

...but the showtime schedule has been removed. Are they going to disappear soon?:

Well, that's all for part 1. Now, please head to PART 2, for some more exciting news and rumors!

  1. When I went to Universal at Christmas they took us to the back pre-show area, maybe like you said it's just because they don't have that big a crowd so need for the bigger area?? :D

  2. I am from the UK and have been to Florida 8 times over the last 20 years. I was at Sherk 4D this time last year and we also used the back pre show. I guess at this time of year the US kids are back at school and thus the crowds are smaller. We always vist the last 2 weeks of August because of this as it is not very busy.

Great site keep up the good work. I aways check evey day to get my fix of all things OTPN!!

  3. Sadly Despicable Me will be using the same ride vehicles. Its going to stay a motion simulator but with a 3d film.

  4. The "G" sign stands for Gru, the villian turned good guy in Despicable Me.

  5. I went to Orlando on July 2009 and December 2010. On both times we ended up at the back theater for Shrek 4D.

  6. About Jimmy Neutron, when you said they were fast in painting over the building, well, back in April when they announced that the ride was closing, they took Arnold, Tommy, and the Nick logo off of the building, so they kinda cheated a little bit.
