I-Walk Orlando Becomes I-Drive Live
The great I-Walk Orlando project has evolved quite a bit since its conception. First, the Merlin Entertainment Company (that also owns LEGOLAND Florida) announced that this new area would have had a big Ferris Wheel, a Madame Tussauds museum, and some shops. just recently, they also added that they would build a new Sea Life Aquarium, along with at least two themed hotel.
Just yesterday, though, the entire project changed name. take a look at this news, posted on Screamscape:

Orlando Eye / Madame Tussauds / I-Drive Live - (8/23/11) BlooLoop
reports that the Orlando Eye project has come to terms with Universal and will
change the entire overall project name from the objectionable "I-Walk Orlando" to "I-Drive Live". The article also confirms that Merlin will run the Orlando
Eye giant wheel as well as a Madame Tussauds and SeaLife Aquarium attraction.
Other projects, restaurants, stores and even other attractions may also come to
I-Drive Orlando, but not from Merlin. (Personally, I think Merlin may want to
rethink the SeaLife Aquarium project in favor of perfecting some kind teleporter
to get guests all the way out to the Legoland Florida site.

Very interesting name. I personally think that this new denomination would fit much better a production studio or a comedy club (the word "LIVE" make me think of a television show, or something along those lines), but it is certainly much better than having to report to court with Universal...
In addition to that, if you read the article mentioned in the new, from the Orlando Sentinel (via BlooLoop), you may have noticed that they mention that "the hotels would be themed, such as those in Las Vegas." Now, if you have seen some of the numerous hotels of Las Vegas, you know how magnificent they look. That would be a great addition to International Drive!
We really can't wait to see the start of the work on this fantastic project. Which of the future attractions coming in this area are you especially looking forward to see? Share your opinions freely.
Sea-Life is not a great idea, here in the UK they are everywhere & only take an hour to visit. When Seaworld is literally down the road there's no competition. Sea-life is basically like the queue at Manta, or a small version of the aquarium at Epcot. It won't interest UK visitors but depending on price it might sit well as a short attraction with the wheel. I just think if people visit Orlando they're likely to be going to seaworld anyway, so won't bother with sea-life. Maybe for locals?
ReplyDeleteI think the Sea Life aquarium may be an interesting side-light to go along with the other proposed attractions in the area. Not everyone is willing to spend the big bucks to visit SeaWorld, and the same can be said for Epcot's the Seas with Nemo and friends, which I think is a poor shadow of what it was when it originally opened as the Living Seas.
