Animal Kingdom Update - August 2011 (PART 1)

Welcome to a new Disney's Animal Kingdom update. It has been a long time since our last visit to the park, so it is time to see if there's something new that is worth reporting. The first obvious recent addition is a new "Let the Memories Begin" banner in front of the park's entrance. It was added a few months ago:

It looks quite nice, and blends nicely with the surrounding, due to the use of wood and fake leaves:

Let's get inside:

A lazy iguana:

The majestic Tree of Life stands in the middle of Discovery Island:

The central Fastpass distribution center has not been used for a long time:

Also, it should be time to take away the Fastpass sign on It's tough to be a Bug's entrance:

A beautiful macaw:

Going to Africa:

We'll get there later:

Harambe:

More pictures of the beautiful Tree of Life:

Entering Asia:

Kali River Rapids was out of Fastpass tickets:

It looks like Disney has decided to remove the free"game" that was previously located on the exit bridge of Kali River Rapids:

Previously, you could push a button, and the elephants would spray the guests on the ride:

The two buttons are now covered and inaccessible:

The elephants seem to have been repainted:

Time to see some monkeys:

We had never noticed this Wildlife Field Station in Asia:

Some theming:

The gigantic Mount Everest:

The clouds in the background really set the scene:

"We apologize, but the Yeti Palace Hotel is not open yet. Try again next season." They always tell us that, but every season it seems like it's the same thing over and over again. We wanted to make a reservation for next year, but... it didn't work:

Expedition Everest - Legend of the Forbidden Mountain:

Only 25 minutes. Not bad:

The Single Rider entrance was not available:

Even if you don't feel like riding, you should at least sit in the reproduction of the ride's train:

A sign helps guests with special needs to understand how they can enjoy the ride too. Unfortunately, they must be able to leave their wheelchair to get on the ride, as there are no cars that can accommodate a wheelchair:

Our photo-update is not over yet. Please, head to PART 2 for more pictures!

I think by the way they mentioned, they do know it is fake. There's nothing like some good humor with a long-awaited photo update. :)

  8. Anonymous is being technical when they're saying it's not Mount Everest. They mean that it's the Forbidden Mountain, a fictional mountain shape. You can see a scaled-down Everest in the background of the mountain, to the right, sculpted into the top of the structure that is actually based off of the real one. My dad pointed this out to me. He's been to the real one.
