Animal Kingdom Update - August 2011 (PART 2)

Thanks for staying with us! Let's continue where we left (To see PART 1, please, click on the link):
As we always say, this lagoon could host a spectacular nighttime show, but it still has nothing (but it does provide a great view of the park's icon):

Finding Nemo: The Musical:

Many usually say that it is better to leave the best for last. Unfortunately, in this update we did the opposite.
Yes, it is Dinorama:

Let's take a look around at DINORAMA's carnival games:

I've never seen the Dino Diner open:

Triceratops Spin:

Let's head to the Dinosaur ride:

Okay, we are getting too close now. Time to move on:

Have you ever visited the Cretaceous Trail? You can find a lot of dinosaurs there!:

Here's the first one:

It even has an hidden Mickey:

More dinosaurs:

It is very, very difficult to see them. They really need to trim the foliage just a bit:

TOTAL DINOSAURS IN THE CRETACEOUS TRAIL: 3 (And 2 are hidden... What a shame!)

At least you can get to see some real animals there too!:

Going back to Discovery Island, we find this huge dining area, which is used for the restaurants in the area.
You can find the entrance near the Beastly Bazaar:

A beautiful painting of the Tree of Life:

Going to Beastly Kingd... ehm, Camp Minnie-Mickey, we find our good friend, the Dragon, but he doesn't look very happy:

The water under the bridge was very green. It looked more like grass:

Finally, there's something new! The former are for Pocahontas' show is now open to the public... as a sitting area:

I call this a great waste of space:

They've literally abandoned this place:

Here's a panoramic view of the theater (click on it to view the full-size photo):

At the very end of the land, there's a fake tree:

It is actually a man-made pole (used for transmissions or something along those lines). It is very well hidden:

Remember to Celebrate the Adventure:

  1. They need to keep just the huge DINORAMA Yellow Dinosaur and waste all the rest of the area, using it for a new Disney Level Attraction!!! I love this park but this is really embarrassing!!!!

  2. Disney needs to add the Beastly Kingdom to fill out the park.

    Keep the Lion King Festival.

There is plenty of room for Journey to the Center of the Earth, as is found in DisneySea, a major E ride.

Possibly a Hercules-Pegasus attraction where under the direction of Phil, visitors would help Herc and Pegasus take out mythical monsters using Toy Story Technology as they save the earth.

The Mythical Maze in search of the Unicorn where one encounters a sphinx, a dragon, which wouldn't totally replace Dragon Tower, but would add some "danger" to the maze.

The big lake needs to have something done with it as well. And the railroad to nowhere needs to go to a new area - Australia.

  3. That fake tree looks like a cell phone tower. There are bunches of those around Atlanta that look like that.

  4. @Bigfoots: Honestly I don't think that Dinorama is bad as people say, it is a very accurate representation of an Americana roadside attraction. If you take the time to really take in all the themeing surrounding and inside of it, you get a better idea of what the imagineers were going for, and probably would not dislike it as much.

@Wes Alex: I honestly dont think beastly kingdom is the way to go. sure fantasy elements should be a welcome part of AK but a whole land devoted to them? in my opinion its overkill and doesnt fit with the other lands. If Disney added an addition to CMM and gave the area a North American theme, did an africa addition to move festival of the lion king and reduce congestion in that zone, and added Australia in between Asia and Planet Watch, the park would be filled out very well. with a few additions to the lands and maybe south america in the distant future that would be AK's perfect situation and would make it very popular.

  5. Posting again.

Beautiful pictures. This park looks so... I don't know. What's the word?

    Abandoned.

I've never been (unfortunate, that is. Due to money and time constraints, also living in Pittsburgh PA... I live vicariously through you guys) but would love to some day.

And as I posted on the first page- these are the first pictures I've actually seen of the park itself and not just the rides/main attractions.

It seems like the park could greatly use some help and attention. I kinda feel bad that it's not as highly regarded (in terms of blogs, it seems there's TONS of them devoted to MK/DL but not so much Animal Kingdom, unless I'm completely missing something. Links, anyone??) as the others, it really has the potential to be spectacular.

    My two cents. From afar.

Correct! In fact the Imagineers had a neat story for Dinoland U.S.A. According to them, when the Dino Institute opened and attracted guests from all around to come and jump back into to time and encounter dinosaurs, two run-of-the mill locals (Chester and Hester) decided to profit off the idea and built Dinorama, the roadside attraction. They even created a "cheap version" of Dinosaur; Primeval Whirl. If you notice both have the exact same plot line; save yourself from impending doom. :)

  7. The floor/paving in dino-Rama is the most complicated to create to make the cracks/old cheap look. FACT

  8. I hope that the bridge controls come back for the grand rapids ride and that their loss is only temporary. It was one of the neat things in the park.

Overall, I was generally impressed with the AK park when I went there two years ago. If I ever go back to WDW (a probability within the next 5 years), I will definitely spend more time at that park then the other three (MK - Too commercialized, EPCOT - Too dumbed down compared to the Classic version, HS - More like a mini-theme park then anything else, barely six hours worth of entertainment).
