Advisory: Monitoring Hurricane Irene

It is the Hurricane season here in the Caribbeans (between June and November), therefore we are closely monitoring any activity in the Atlantic Ocean. This week, the authorities have named the very first hurricane of the season (the others were just tropical storms): Hurricane Irene. The parks are always concerned with the safety of both their guests and cast members.

The Walt Disney World Resort has issued this important advisory for this week:

The Walt Disney World Resort is closely monitoring the progress and path of Hurricane Irene and is currently operating as normal. We will continue to monitor the weather and provide updates as needed. Guests are encouraged to monitor local TV, radio and Internet news for the latest weather information.

If you're staying here in Florida during this week, we also encourage you to remain up-to-date with the warnings issued by the weather authorities. Indeed, we are told that the Hurricane will bring some very heavy rain in the next few days (especially on Thursday and/or Friday). Just be prepared.

  1. Irene? What Irene?

    On Irene:

Here in P.R. we had mostly Tropical Storm winds but it turned into Hurricane Cat-1 near a municipality called Toa Baja. Yesterday it was said that after 2 days of constant rain in two municipalities rain levels have been recorded at 17 inches!! Two of our main rivers in the North have NEVER, I'd said NEVER since they started recording have been so full. Irene is over the Bahamas right now and we still are suffering the remaining effects of its tail. With a thunder storm, rain, rain, and Oh yes more rain!!

Samuele I'll bet you didn't have many of those in Italy... Here is, "Otro dia en el paraiso!" When it started we had about 800,0000 people without energy (or about half of the population) and yesterday there was a TORNADO Watch! Which I have to say in my 20 plus years living here I've never ever heard... Turns out it didn't happened, but what the weather service said did happen was Hail! Yes Hail!! In the Caribbean!! Plus 1 recorded death already when an older lady tried to cross an overflowed stream then she got hit suddenly with a strong surge of water...

Right now at 3:23a.m. Wednesday is still raining (Irene started on Monday before sunrise here) and in some municipalities the total rain accumulation after could be more than 20 inches in the end.

So yes, I'd said you guys in Florida should take this seriously! But with that said it probably won't hit Florida at least not directly. But be alert for warnings though...
