Orlando Thrill Park Project Abandoned
Do you remember the infamous Orlando Thrill Park project, that had been rejected? They were back more than a month ago, trying to get the approval from the City of Orlando and from the nearby locals that live in the Tangelo Park. Well, the project has officially been abandoned, this time for good. Take a look at what the Orlando Sentinel has posted on their official site, just a few hours ago:
Property owner drops pursuit of thrill-ride park at north end of International Drive
Plans for an thrill-ride park at the north end of Orlando's International Drive have been abandoned.
The developer, I-Drive Investors LLC, has dropped its bid to put a group of roller coasters and other rides on 78 acres between Festival Bay shopping mall and the Tangelo Park neighborhood, citing the cost and difficulty of pursuing an appeal
The city's Municpal Planning Board rejected zoning changes for the project earlier this year, citing concerns about the effect noise from the attraction might have on the homes nearby.
The city has come to an agreement with the developer to conduct public hearings into land-use changes for developing the large, rectangular site. But both parties said Monday that a thrill-ride park would be expressly prohibited.

Neil Frazee, a representative of the land's owner, said his clients realized they "probably couldn't get it appreoved [sic.] on that piece of property with the opposition" from some of the nearby residents.
Frazee said the developer is going to return to the drawing boad [sic.] and doesn't have alternative plans for the property at this point.
Check back for updates.
This new amusement park was to be built between a residential area and the shopping area known as "Festival Bay". The project for this property is dead, but it does not mean that they will not return with new ideas (hopefully better ones!) for other properties around the area. Stay tuned.
Phew! Dodged a bullet there. Could you have imagined...a theme park...in Orlando!?! Madness! The last thing I want it my city is a stupid theme park.
ReplyDeleteAnd lets be honest, do we really need jobs with how amazing our economy is? That park would have never opened, too many people are employed! Rick Scott was right to turn down 3000 jobs for the high speed rail and Orlando was right to turn down this park.
I think this project will come back in some form in the future.
