Disney's Animal Kingdom - June 2011 Update (Part 2)
Hello, and welcome to part 2 of this new Disney's Animal Kingdom update. Before continuing, make sure that you've seen PART 1 first, so that you can follow along. Thank you.
Now, let's continue in Dinoland U.S.A., where we get to get a glimpse on the work being done on Primeval Whirl. The ride closed on January 17 and was supposed to reopen on April 5. Later, the reopening was pushed back to April 16., but after a death of a worker, the refurbishment was postponed once again, to June 1. Recently, it was postponed even further. Indeed, now the ride is supposed to reopen on September 14.
Let's see some pictures, to see the current condition of the ride, after more than four months of work:
It looks... well, the same:
Build you must? Then destroy it fast!:
It looks like they've installed new railways on top (I don't remember seeing that eyesore):
More pictures:
Maybe they've repainted this meteor?:
But, the coaster track will surely look clean, after all these months of work, right?
WRONG! It looks even worse than before the refurbishment:
...And the billboard at the end of the road, near Primeval Whirl, is ridiculously fading:
Goofy and Pluto meeting guests:
Walking around Dinoland:
DINOSAUR:
Inside, they've installed something new! Yes, new blinds:
This looks a new set of fossils:
In the main queue:
Nice artworks throughout the queue:
The T-Rex:
A look back at the worst area of the park:
Whoops! I must have used a time machine... Everybody's gone!:
The Boneyard:
I still call this place Petri-Fries (the old name, when McDonald's was still the sponsor of the area):
The Brachiosaurus:
A new sign has been installed near the entrance to Dinoland:
It looks nice:
Going back to Discovery Island:
Shhh. Nobody's here. It's so peaceful:
You can even have some additional animal encounters in these situations!:
Closed for the day... at 6:00 p.m. Ridiculous:
Recycle:
And that's all! Phew, we finally made it! Thanks for joining us in this new update!

They can't have fireworks because it might frighting the animals.
ReplyDeleteRegarding fireworks: That's true, but they could do a different type of show with music, fountains (World of Color), lasers, lighting and smoke effects.
ReplyDeleteRegarding Dinoland: I wish they would remove all the games and Primeval Whirl. They make it look like a cheap amusement park. They already have a great dark ride there (Dinosaur) but could do some type of themed, interactive walk-thru attraction (think Triceratops Encounter on steroids).
There is also a lot of undeveloped land, including the area they used during construction of Expedition Everest. And don't even get me started on Beastly Kingdom... ;-)
Still, I love this park because it is the most beautifully landscaped park anywhere in the world.
Asia and Africa are amazing and Everest is an incredible creation. I also love the Dino Institute's themeing(even when I hate the tacky Dinosaur sign) Animal Kingdom's strengths are excellent but are not enough for a park that has so much neglected potential. I could say the same for Epcot as well... World Showcase would have had sooo much more. Attractions on every corner. It's sad.
ReplyDeleteI agree with all that has pretty much been said. I do think that "Chester & Hester's DinoRama" area needs to be torn down and replaced with another E-ticket attraction, also the thought of a night-time show similar to World of Color sounds like an amazing idea. It would also be nice if Disney added more to the Camp Minnie-Mickey area. I definitely agree that this park has alot of potential for bringing in more attractions. I'll just keep my fingers crossed.
ReplyDeleteThanks, great update. I just want to add that the sign you said was fading was actually painted like that. It's supposed to fit into the whole "traveling parking lot fair" theme of the area.
ReplyDeleteThe problem with any zoo, which essentially this is, is that you can't have animals being under stress (rides, tours, etc) for a long period of time, for example, 14 hours or so... which is why the park closes early. A night time show outdoors may work, if far apart from Kilamanjaro (where the animals are outdoors) as to not, again, stress out the animals late at night. I love Camp Mini-Mickey, because it's great for the little kids (of which I have). THAT being said, more indoor buildings with static display of animals (like snakes, lizards, bats, etc) like in other zoos would be a great addition, although maybe difficult to theme as beautifully as they've done so far. Rides like Kilamanjaro and the Dinosaur ride work ok in the area, but I don't think that Expedition Everest works for me. Leave the big roller coasters for the other parks, and treat this like an educational animal experience first and fore-most. OH, and I also agree that the "traveling carnival" (or whatever it's called) section should be removed all-together!
ReplyDeleteSorry, wanted to add one more thing. The trouble with Disney, and other "animal" parks, like Sea World, is that sadly teenagers don't want to be educated anymore with animal displays... they just want to be thrilled with rides... and this puts pressure on Sea World to compete with Disney and Universal, and also has Animal Kingdom competing with parks like Hollywood Studios and Magic Kingdom. For those vacationing in Florida (from out of town), Animal Kingdom is a great "relaxing" park that allows you to relax more and enjoy the scenery, instead of long line ups for rides, and being shaken up by roller coasters... but, I'm also in my 30's, and not a teenager... so difficult for Disney to please all. My suggestion... now that they own the rights to Marvel products... create a new park, a MARVEL park, with crazy rides named Iron Man and Thor, and attract the "teens" and hard-core riders to that park, and leave the Animal Kingdom as the educational place it should be... believe me, many will still visit! Just add more displays, and maybe even a large aquarium for an aquatic part of the park!
ReplyDeleteThanks for all the very nice comments. I just wanted to add that I agree with everybody that says that Animal Kingdom is a greatly-themed zoo, but then... why do they charge the same amount of money that we would pay by going to Magic Kingdom or Epcot?? Those a re both full-day theme parks, with incredible rides, but zoos in general do not charge more than $40 per day... Animal Kingdom may be the best zoo, but then they should only charge maximum $50! Don't you think?
