A Look at "Car Masters Weekend" at Downtown Disney

Just last week, a special event took place at Downtown Disney. Between May 13 and May 15, the 'Car Masters Weekend' was held, showcasing cars from the upcoming Disney-Pixar movie "Cars 2", and more.

Car Masters Weekend brings 'Cars 2' rides to life

Downtown Disney West Side plays host to Car Masters Weekend May 13-15. Each day from 10:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., car lovers will find the promenade lined with nearly 60 classic cars and a display of modern GM cars from the Test Track showroom floor, as well as the largest life-sized, radio-controlled replica cars ever built.  Pixar Animation Studios' "Cars" franchise guardian and car expert, Jay Ward, has been tapped to judge the Classic Car show which will be held Saturday and Sunday.

"We are very excited to have families enjoy the great photo opportunity with our Pixar cars and hopefully the kids will come back to watch 'Cars 2' when it is released in June," said Jan McMichael, duty manager, Downtown Disney. "We have had great comments from our guests, the kids are excited to meet Finn for the first time, and they can also have the opportunity to purchase our 'Cars 2' merchandise now and not wait until the official release on May 16."

State Farm brings Disney-Pixar's "Cars 2" adventure directly to fans with the "Agents on a Mission" tour, showcasing cars modeled after their big-screen likenesses. Guests can check out star racecar Lightning McQueen, pal Mater and master British spy Finn McMissile from the upcoming animated motion picture and take part in a variety of "Cars 2"-themed activities, including a video kiosk, e-photo opportunities, games and giveaways. One can also enter the "Agents on a Mission" sweepstakes, which features 18,000 prizes, including a new car.

The family-friendly weekend devoted to all things cars will be the only place to purchase special Disney-Pixar "Cars 2" merchandise prior to the official release of the film - including new RIDEMAKERZ models - and bonus entertainment. NASCAR fans can get a peek at Richard Petty's racecar on display inside RIDEMAKERZ at Downtown Disney West Side and will find remote control versions of the new models outside the store.

The 2006 Disney-Pixar "Cars" film returns to the big screen with a limited engagement viewing at AMC Downtown Disney 24 Theatres throughout the weekend. Moviegoers even can catch a glimpse of the new movie trailer from "Cars 2," which gets the "green flag" June 24, presented in Disney Digital 3-D and IMAX 3-D in select theaters.
