Shanghai Disneyland finally breaks ground
A great news has been posted on the Disney Parks Blog yesterday! The new Shanghai Disney Resort has finally broken ground, just yesterday! Take a look at these fantastic artworks:
Breaking Ground on Shanghai Disney Resort
I’m writing to you from Shanghai where Bob Iger and I are just about to take the stage for a very special ceremony. In just a few minutes we will officially break ground on the Shanghai Disney Resort.
This is truly a defining moment in our company’s history. We will now begin construction on this exciting new site and cause our creative concepts to leap from the drawing boards and become a wonderful new resort where friends and families can visit and play and create memories that they’ll never forget.
With Shanghai Disney Resort, we have the chance to introduce the Disney Parks experience to an entirely new group of guests. Scheduled to open in about five years, our new resort in Shanghai will include things that you know and love about a Disney theme park such as Disney characters, attractions and storytelling… but it will also feature all-new experiences and stories that were inspired by and created for the people of China. The best way to describe this new resort is authentically Disney, yet distinctly Chinese.
Shanghai Disneyland will be the name of the theme park itself, but the property will also have two themed hotels, a venue for retail, dining and entertainment, a wonderful sparkling lagoon and some outdoor recreation areas.
We look forward to sharing more details with you right... on the Disney Parks Blog. Until then, I would like to thank everyone from both Disney and the Shanghai Shendi Group who have worked so tirelessly to make the dream of building a Disney resort in Shanghai a reality.

Disney Breaks Ground on Sixth Resort
With destinations in Anaheim, Calif., Orlando, Fla., Tokyo, Paris and Hong Kong, Disney leaders broke ground in Shanghai on its sixth resort April 8. Disney President and CEO Bob Iger, Walt Disney Parks and Resorts Chairman Tom Staggs, members of the Shanghai government, and Mickey Mouse were on hand for the official ceremony. The new resort is slated to open in approximately five years.
“Today marks a significant milestone in the history of The Walt Disney Company,” Bob said. “Our Shanghai resort will be a world-class family vacation destination that combines classic Disney characters and storytelling with the uniqueness and beauty of China. Working with our Chinese partners, the Shanghai Disney Resort will be both authentically Disney and distinctly Chinese.”
The Shanghai Disney Resort will be home to Shanghai Disneyland, a Magic Kingdom-style park. Shanghai Disney Resort will offer something for everyone – thrilling adventures, enriching interactive experiences and classic Disney attractions along with the world-class guest service that Disney is known for. On opening day the resort will include two themed hotels, a retail, dining and entertainment venue, recreational facilities, a lake, and parking and transportation hubs.
“We’re incredibly excited to build a Disney resort in Shanghai, one of the world's most vibrant cities,” Tom said. “We are hard at work designing Shanghai Disneyland, which when complete will be a special place where guests of all ages will discover a world of imagination, creativity, adventure and thrills.”
When Shanghai Disney Resort opens, it will cover 963 acres in the Shanghai district of Pudong with plenty of land for future expansion. With more than 330 million people within a three hour drive or train radius, the new park will showcase the best Disney has to offer to millions of visitors each year. The new park will complement the company's existing efforts in China – including Hong Kong Disneyland Resort, Disney Stores and other enterprises.
Disney is partnering with the Shanghai Shendi Group on the development, construction and management of the resort.

Also, in case you were wondering, Shanghai Disneyland already has an official website, that can be found HERE, even though there are actually no new information that we do not already know.
What do you personally think? In our opinion, we should wait before judging, as the artworks have to be consider for what they really are: blue-sky concepts, that can change at any time. With that being said, it looks like it's going to be a really amazing park.
What a beautiful looking park, I love the weird design, the mains treet looks short, tomorrowland on the opposite side, it looks so weird, but so awesome!
