Orlando Thrill Park promises to be "quiet"
As you know, two new theme parks are coming to Central Florida. One is Legoland, which will open next year, in October. The other one is the controversial Orlando Thrill Park (OTP).
Why controversial? Well, it will be built just TWO miles from Universal Orlando and will feature EXCLUSIVELY thrill rides, including 12 roller coasters. Of course, the nearby neighbors are very concerned about the noise-level that the park may bring, so last Wednesday (Yesterday!) OTP showed its plans, and promised to be as "quiet" as possible.
Here's the news from CFNews 13:

Plans for roller coaster theme park concerning neighbors

Master plans for the “Orlando Thrill Park” were unveiled Wednesday night during an event at the Festival Bay Mall. The company behind the plans wants to build the new park near the mall, as well as near the Tangelo Park neighborhood.
The park would have more than a dozen roller coasters, which brought up concerns about loud noise.
But the company said it will build a wall to keep the noise level down for nearby residents.
Still, many people who live in Tangelo Park said they were not convinced.
“Tangelo is a community basically of older people,” said resident Doris Booker. “We do not need the noise or the traffic. We need peace and tranquility.”
“I’ve been talking with the business developer and looking at the plans, and I think they’re doing everything to make this a positive experience,” said Bryan Bindman, of Orlando. “So I’m really excited about being zipped up those towers, if they ever get built.”
Orlando’s planning board is expected to take a look at the plans during a meeting in the next week.

So, what do you think? Will they really be able to control the noise level of the park? Why, IOA has had problems with a school behind for the noise of just 2 coasters!
I'm no expert, but I don't believe a wall would quiet the coasters enough. At least not enough for the residents liking. What good is a wall vs a 100 feet + coaster? Only if they manage some how to build quieter coasters, with some special technique.
ReplyDeleteBut I really hope this place gets build a lot more than I'm excited about the MK'S expansion or about Legoland. I mean I know those additions will be top notch and all, but I personally think Florida needs more thrills. It has already enough Themes. Don't get me wrong I love quality well themed attractions. But more without adding more thrills?
I would agree that if this is a Six Flags look-alike it would be a little sad... But come on 12 coasters would pretty much double Florida's thrill selections.
But my question is why are they fix with this place that much? I know is about location but I guess what they're saying is they think that the close proximity of places like Universal is helpful and not detrimental. Legoland took the other route and went farther away from competition. Isn't there a couple of more places around that route to Legoland or to BGT that could be better to build this park? Without complaining residents.
Again I know more than likely they're banking on: "oh that park is so close lets take a look" but Lego is hopeful people will make the trip...
Thoughts?
Thanks for the great comment, Francisco! I have to say that I personally DON'T LIKE Six Flags-type parks, because of the huge lack of theming, and I don't think I will visit the Orlando Thrill Park, unless it includes dark rides and LOTS of theming....
ReplyDeleteIf they want to be In Orlando, they need to be at the same level of the other parks if they want to succeed IMHO. It's true, unfortunately today many people like coasters, but I don't think it will make the park as good as the other ones.
What do you think?
Well.. I understand both part... but 12 coaster??? Welll.. if they will do I need to change my testament to be buried there... ahahah!!!!
ReplyDelete12 coaster.... Wow!!! If they will try to find a logical link between the coaster and they will thematize the area... well... it will be huge!!!!!!!
I really hope they will change the location, not for the old people that live in that area, but because is a too little lot if they want to think to future expansion!!!!
@Bigfoots- I like that! About the testament. It sounds great! 12 coasters! Hurra!
ReplyDelete@Samuele- It really doesn't look in that map like they would built much, (if anything) more. Theming doesn't seem to be great either, but with that said I look at that map and don't find it disgusting either. In fact when I think of the idea of riding a coaster then walking maybe over a bridge then riding another!! I get sooooo excited is almost incomprehensible!
I've never gone to a Six Flags. Is not lack of interest is just that I haven't seen that excited by the lack of other 3 or 4 parks around them. Plus Orlando is just that near to the Caribbean that plane tickets aren't that expensive. I would like to go eventually though.
I don't say this like a complaint about your tastes or pic selection or in any way, means or form, but is just that really (Myself) couldn't care less about the MK's expansion. I speak of this because for my money this huge attractions are the ones that drive me to the parks(or fly me). For me the rest, is just like a side dish. I mean I really like a lot of other attractions and love when they put the effort to theme them accordingly. But with the new attractions going to Florida in the coming years I'm really more excited about the BGT Cheetah Hunt. That any thing else. I would love to see the Forbidden Journey too. But to me Florida is a little lacking in the thrills department. I'm not the dude that says all I like are roller coasters and no theming (I don't care) by the way. I'm far from it, in fact if I had to classify myself I would say I'm in the middle between that dude and your tastes. Cause I like just walking around the lagoon at Epcot (I really do), but there aren't really that many things to get me excited there.

ReplyDeleteSo maybe they're banking on the lack of thrills around Orlando. I mean less face it besides Tampa's Sheikra is there anything else resembling that type of 200 feet scare out there. I would say from a far though don't get your hopes up for OTP cause it sure looks as it would be 90% if not more about coasters and frankly I don't know if they would have the space to put anything more there...
