September 18, 1989 - "Chip 'n' Dale Rescue Rangers" debuts in syndication
No case too big, no case too small - when you need help, just call. 33 years after the release of their last short, Chip 'n' Dale returned to action in a new animated television series as the heads of the Rescue Rangers detective agency. Always on point with his bomber jacket and Indiana Jones-style fedora, Chip is the de facto leader, while Dale keeps things loose with his Magnum, PI-esque Hawaiian shirt and laid-back attitude. Joining the duo are Gadget Hacketwrench, team pilot and chief inventor; Monterey Jack, an adventurous Aussie with a love for cheese; and Zipper, a housefly with uncanny strength and unwavering dedication. "Rescue Rangers" premiered on Disney Channel on March 5, 1989 and ran for 65 episodes across two seasons, although reruns continued as part of the Disney Afternoon programming block until 1993. Gadget is the namesake of Gadget's Go Coaster, part of Mickey's Toontown at Disneyland Park.

September 15, 1996 - Ellen's Energy Adventure officially opens at Epcot
A playful update to the Universe of Energy pavilion's signature attraction, Ellen DeGeneres welcomes guests into her nightmare: a "Jeopardy!" match where the clues are solely about energy, something she knows nothing about, against Albert Einstein and her genius college roommate Judy (Jamie Lee Curtis). Fortunately, Bill Nye the Science Guy is her neighbor - and he jumps in to teach her everything she needs to know. As guests follow Bill and Ellen in moving theatre cars, they travel back to the beginning of the universe, through the world of dinosaurs and back to the present, where humans confront the energy challenges of the future. Returning to her nightmare, Ellen mounts an impressive comeback, but the outcome hinges on Alex Trebek's "Final Jeopardy!" clue: What is the one source of power that will never run out? Think hard - although the theatre cars are partially powered by the 80,000 photovoltaic solar cells mounted atop the pavilion, it's not the sun. Do you know what it is?
