OOTL: new pool for Disneyland Hotel
A new pool, complete with new features is coming soon (well, maybe not so soon, but in 2012) at the Disneyland hotel, one of the three Disney-owned hotels located at the Disneyland resort in California.
Here's the detailed news from the Walt Disney Company:
"In May [of 2010], the Disneyland Resort announced substantial upgrades at the Disneyland Hotel as part of the hotel's continuing renovation project.
From July 26 - August 2, several locations will close their doors to make way for exciting enhancements in the courtyard area.
July 25 is the last day of operation for Hook's Pointe and the Wine Cellar, followed by Croc's Bits 'n' Bites and The Lost Bar on August 1. The last day of operation for the Video Arcade will be July 30 and July 31 for the Jungle Cruise Remote Control Boats.
Poolside service at the Never Land Pool will remain available, and operating hours will not change, weather permitting. The lounge at Steakhouse 55 will become the primary bar for the Disneyland Hotel and will extend operating hours to 11:30 a.m. - 1:30 a.m.
Upgrades include a new pool and water play area, renovating an existing pool, and a new restaurant and bar.
The Disneyland Hotel officially opened on Oct. 5, 1955. When the hotel opened, there were only seven motels in the Anaheim neighborhood, with only 87 guest rooms available. The original Disneyland Hotel consisted of only a small three-story building with 104 rooms and then expanded to 204 rooms in 1956.
The Disneyland Hotel has changed many times over the years.
In 1954, Walt Disney asked his friend, Jack Wrather, to open the hotel near the exit of Disneyland Park and after purchasing 60 acres, "The Official Hotel of the Magic Kingdom" was under construction. The starting room rate when the hotel opened was $15 per night. The Walt Disney Company purchased the hotel from the Wrather Corporation in 1988.
The original maritime-themed play land, including a shopping and dining village, opened in the 1970s on the same site as the new courtyard that is currently under renovation (the area has seen many renovations over the years). The new water play area, pool, and food and beverage locations are scheduled for completion by summer 2011. The remodeled existing pool is slated for completion by summer 2012."
That's a great news for the park's hotel, but personally, the Disneyland hotel in California is not on par with any of WDW's hotels. It looks like a normal hotel you can find everywhere....
Anyway, that's great.
