NEW GENERATION FESTIVAL
Bienvenue à Paris!
After making us dream on the silver screen, the heroes from the latest Disney and Disney•Pixar films are starring in Disneyland Paris to share in even more fun with our guests. Now through March 2011, the Disney New Generation Festival features stories and heroes from The Princess and the Frog, Lilo & Stitch, Ratatouille, Finding Nemo, Cars, Monsters, Inc., The Incredibles and Toy Story.
The highlight of the festival will be the opening of Toy Story Playland, an expansion of Toon Studios at the Walt Disney Studios Park, later this summer. This toy-sized, grass-filled oasis will feature three all-new attractions based on characters from the Disney•Pixar Toy Story series and brings to life some of the world's most nostalgic toys.
To create a feel for what it would be like to zoom along a Hot Wheels half-pipe track or fall from the sky like Andy's Little Green Army Men, the creative folks at Walt Disney Imagineering (WDI) had to think about everything from the perspective of a toy.
"When you are in this land, nothing is human scale and everything is made of toys," Chrissie Allen, senior show producer says. "Benches are fashioned from Lincoln Logs, a wall is constructed of dominoes, and a 14-foot-tall Buzz Lightyear action figure (that you can walk under) greets visitors at one of the entrances."
At the other entrance, monkeys from a giant blue Barrel of Monkeys welcome guests with letters from a Scrabble game.
Throughout the enormous landscape of his backyard, Andy will set up three play scenes - vignettes where you'll experience what it's like to be a toy.
The first is Toy Soldiers Parachute Drop, where guests are invited to join Andy's Little Green Army Men in a simulated parachute drop for the entire family. Next, younger guests can climb aboard Slinky dog on the Slinky Dog Zigzag Spin as he whimsically chases his tail in a circle. And in Andy's most dare-devilling set-up you'll find RC Racer, the fastest car in Andy's toy collection which will is all revved up to take on Toy Story Playland's 25 meter high half-pipe coaster.
"Strewn along the wide walkway are giant Tinkertoys as lampposts, retaining walls made from dominoes, and Andy's toys are everywhere, which - at night - are all lit by oversized holiday lights," Allen said, adding that there are a few surprises throughout the land for those who are looking. "Andy's enormous but subtle footprints are found in the walkway. We've even hidden trash cans by designing them to look like wooden blocks."
This seems like a great idea, even though I HATE the new Toy Story Playland, which is just a Fun Fair-like area... They could have done something waaay better, but we all know the bad financial problems that Disneyland Paris has been having since... it opened! That's really sad. I like DLP.
But it's taking the wrong decisions lately...
