Disney to go to sleep?

It seems like the Walt Disney Company has taken a sad decision about its "near" future.
Indeed, it seems that after the new Fantasyland expansion and DCA's rehab, there will be no more new areas (or at least, no more large-scale attractions) until after the end of the next DECADE (2020!!)!

Here's the news from the Orlando Sentinel:

"In his talk at the Sanford C. Bernstein Strategic Decisions Conference in New York, Iger told analysts that Disney’s theme-parks division is likely to pull back on capital spending in a few years.

Iger described the current capital-spending surge at Walt Disney Parks and Resorts — including the two cruise ships; the Hawaiian resort; and expansions of the Magic Kingdom in Orlando, Disney California Adventure in Anaheim, Hong Kong Disneyland and Disneyland Paris — as “mildly aberrational.”

The bulk of the spending on those projects began in 2009 and is expected to continue through 2014.

“I think, once we get through this period, we’re probably going to drop down to what I’ll call a more steady state,” Iger said. “We don’t really project — save for Disneyland Shanghai, should be we successful in completing that agreement and building the park — we don’t really project anything as significant as this collection of investments on the [capital expenditure] front over the next decade."
                                                                                                                  next decade
                                                                                                                               next decade (echo)

What? This means that we WILL NOT see neither a new country in Epcot nor a much-needed expansion to Disney's Animal kingdom?

That's ridiculous! But i hope that at least they will continue to add rides, maybe not all at once like they are doing now, but we need more rides and shows!! Especially Animal Kingdom!!

Theme Park Insider asked a question that we'd like to share with you:
Are the other park's chains in our area (namely Universal, Sea World and Legoland) going to take advantage of this situation by building new exciting additions that will wake up Disney?

I hope so....

A special thanks to Theme Park Insider.

  1. He didn't say they wouldnt do anything big. He said they would be balancing out their budget. I mean 1.1 billion for DCA, 500-700 Million(my estimate) and the 1 Billion plus to build the new shanghai disney. thats anywhere from 2.6 billion dollars to 2.8 Billion dollars. Things will be added and improved over time trust me.

  2. Agreed. This goes to show you that Carland probably won't make it's way to Florida.

  3. the reality is that in 2012 the world will end! so they don't make project on the long time distance!!!

  4. They should add something that will make animal kingdom worth being open late, like a light parade or something like WoC
