Orlando's signature fountain works again!
After a lightning made it impossible for the fountain to work since last year (summer 2009!), our great fountain works again!!
Here's the press release from CF NEWS 13:
"ORLANDO -- After more than nine months, water is flowing once again from the Lake Eola fountain.
Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer switched the fountain back on in a brief ceremony at 1 p.m. Wednesday.
One of the most historic and widely recognized symbols of the City Beautiful, the fountain had been out of commission since August, when it was struck by lightning.
"You think about Orlando, you think about Lake Eola and the fountain,” said Laura Grillmeier.
“When we come back with the dogs every once in a while, it’s just weird to just be sitting there and not be on. So I’m excited about it coming back,” said Nicole Fahringer.
City workers and contractors said they wanted to get some water flowing over the fountain’s plastic dome to keep it from cracking under the hot sun.
Dyer thanked Walt Disney World Imagineers for helping to fix the decades-old fountain.

It took $40,000 in repairs just to get the fountain back up and running.
In order to get it fully operational, the city is preparing to spend over $1 million.
The private insurance paid the city about $250,000, and the city will get the rest of the money from an emergency fund.
"(Do you think it's worth the price tag to get it back on?) Sure, it's only money," Edward Morganto told News 13.
The new fountain will soon be equipped with new jets, water plumes, lights and music.
"There will also be a variety of lighting packages and then we have audio now in the park, and it will be computerized so that the water will actually be synchronized – the jets and lights -- with the music in the park," Dyer said."
The upgrades won’t be seen until early next year.
But for those who live and play near the park, they’re just glad to see it working again.
Dyer said the city is working to get the fountain fully repaired by July 4 for the Fireworks at the Fountain celebration.
That sounds great! I love additions! And we have to say thanks to WDW too...
With the synchronized lights and the Disney Company cooperation, the completed show will look like this sketch made appositely for the Orlando fountain:
Just kidding! But it will look great for sure!
