Did you know... MAGIC KINGDOM?
As I did for EPCOT, here you are only some of the wonderful hidden gems of WDW's theme parks:
MAGIC KINGDOM:
- Magic Kingdom as you may know, opened October 1, 1971 (next October 2011, it will be its 40th year of activity!);
- There are 3 horse-drawn street cars in the Main Street area, but only 2 run at the same time;
- The WDW railroad trains run at 10 to 12 miles per hour (like a bike!);
- In Adventureland, the root system of the Robinsons' treehouse goes four stories underground;
- In the Jungle Cruise attraction you don't visit only one river, but actually 4: the Amazon (Brazil); the Congo river (Central Africa); the Nile (North Africa) and the Mekong river (in Cambodia, Asia);
- Before Everest, Big Thunder Mountain was the tallest mountain in Florida (197 feet, 6 inches)!;
- Country Bear Jamboree made its world debut here at the Magic Kingdom;
- Splash Mountain rises 86 feet;
- At 40 miles per hour, the final drop of Splash Mountain is faster than Space Mountain!
- The Hall of President was inspired by "Great moments with Mr Lincoln" at the Disneyland resort in California (that recently reopened);
- King Arthur's carousel is one of the oldest attractions (it was built in 1917!);
- Cinderella castle reaches 189 feet into the air, making it smaller than The Tower of Terror , even though it's the tallest Disney castle in the world (together with the one in the Tokyo Disneyland park);
- The mosaics under Cinderella castle are fused with silver and 14 Karat gold!!;
- It's a Small World was created by Walt himself in 1964-1965;
- Mickey's Toontown Fair's first name was Mickey's Birthdayland, in honor of Mickey's 60th anniversary in 1988. This area will close for good late 2010 to build the new Fantasyland.
- Tomorrowland Speedway's cars accelerate at a maximum speed of 7 mph. You can run faster than them!;
- Space Mountain is 183 feet tall, almost as tall as the castle!;
- The steepest descent in the Space mountain attraction is a 39-degree drop;
- The SpectroMagic parade is 20 minutes long and debuted October 1, 1991;
- Tinkerbell took her first "flight" from Cinderella castle on July 4th, 1985.
Interesting, isn't it?
Remember that these facts are NOT copied and pasted from Internet. I made a research (by watching DVD's and other sources).
