Food & Beverage Changes at Animal Kingdom
A completely new additional service will soon be available to Guests with certain special needs:
"Beginning August 4th, 2013, Guests with food allergies and intolerances visiting Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park will have a central location to purchase pre-packaged snacks and receive information about meal options within the park that can accommodate their dietary restrictions.
With this new offering, Guests with food allergies or intolerances will have the flexibility to understand their food options prior to visiting a food and beverage location within Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park. By utilizing the information provided at this kiosk, Guests may still need to repeat the specifics of their allergy or intolerance less often while dining within the park's restaurants. The new location, called the Gardens Kiosk, is located on Discovery Island next to Adventurers Outpost."
We are sure that this will greatly benefit Guests dealing with allergies. Here's yet another change:
"Also beginning August 4th, several menu changes will happen at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park. Food and beverage kiosks (Dino Diner, Trilo-Bites, Beastly Kiosk, etc.) wil start to sell items considered snacks only. All meal type offerings, including turkey legs and hot dogs, will be sold within a Quick Service Restaurant."
Thank you for taking note of this. We will always continue to keep you up-to-date in regards to this and other theme park advisories. In the meantime, remember to share your comments and opinions with us!
We are travelling in may from The UK with a 2 yr old who is allergic to dairy and soya, so these changes are great. Do you know if the other theme parks offer these options or information? We plan to visit universal, Disney and SeaWorld. We have been twice b4 but never needed dairy free options, last time he was only 11 wks old and bottle feeding and the 1st time was b4 he was born.
ReplyDeleteother parks will be accommodating but they don't have a specific kiosk like ak that i know of. i am a gluten free vegan and i can always find something
ReplyDeleteHi Kerry - Disney is the best when it comes to dealing with food allergies. Check here for some general information: https://disneyworld.disney.go.com/guest-services/special-dietary-requests/
ReplyDeleteIf you email the address listed, they can send you a list of certain items and their ingredients and where you can find them. For example, the ice cream shop on Main Street in MK has Rice Dream ice cream, but other shops will not. The Itzakadoozie frozen fruit popsicle sold at the kiosks is dairy free. As the mom of 2 food-allergic kids, I know there is nothing worse than waiting in line with a kid who has their heart set on something and finding out they cannot have it.
At counter service restaurants, inform the cashier you need to speak to a manager about food allergies and they will show you a book with all of the ingredients and help you choose an alternative. At sit-down places, note on your reservation about the allergies, then remind the hostess when you check in and they will have a chef come out and talk to you about what is safe before you order.
They are so well-informed, it will truly be a vacation for you, and your child will eat well (not bunless hotdogs the whole week!). Enjoy!
Cindy
PS: SeaWorld and Universal do not have any of these procedures in place. You just take your chances in each restaurant, just like in the real world.
